Driving restrictions?

So my appointment yesterday ended with a NST, fetal fibronectin test and internal exam because I had been having very frequent BH over the weekend. Thankfully, all is well-I'm still long and closed, NST was "beautiful" and the fFN was negative.

We talked about work and light duty. My OB had to leave before my NST was complete but I was talking with her RN about what I could do when on light duty and I mentioned one of my tasks could be to drive to outlying places for PR or to put on training. She very quickly shot down driving.

Really?! Is it common to be put on driving restrictions but still be able to do "office" work??

I will clarify when I go back in two weeks, but I'm just curious what others have experienced...

Re: Driving restrictions?

  • That seems weird to me. I don't see how driving is that much more strenuous than sitting at a desk, unless the RN thought you meant long distance driving. If it were me, I'd call the OB to clarify.

I was told not to drive while I was on bed rest, but that was largely because I was on Procardia, and they didn't want me passing out at the wheel.

  • I didn't see a difference between driving and sitting at a desk, either. Glad I'm not the only one who thought that was strange.

  • I didn't have driving restrictions, but my doctor didn't like my long commute, so I cut back hours/ worked off hours to avoid traffic..and worked from home at 30 weeks. The problem was sitting in the car for a stretch of time without being able to move around. Even at my desk job, he said to get up at regular intervals. I would guess that's what it's about.I also got into a car accident around 30ish weeks, and my stomach hit the steering wheel..thankfully everything turned out fine...but after that I was nervous driving, so I didn't unless I really had to.
