TTC after 35

New here and Pregnancy Test Fail...but strange situation...

Hi Ladies,

I'm new here so excited to be on the board.  DH and I are trying for our 2nd baby.  I missed my period which has been coming at 25 days.  Today is day 28 and still no period.  However, I took a pregnancy test (actually 4 of them LOL) and it was negative.  I have felt the same as I did with my first with PMS symptoms, but with #1, I got a BFP. A little frustrated at this point...we've only been trying for 3 months so I'm not giving up.

My questions are these:

Has anyone failed an OTC pregnancy test but gotten a positive result at the doctors office?

Has anyone really had a BFP "6 days early" as the box indicates on the ept tests?

I think I am rambling here but let me end with this...on day 29 I tested for the first time with my 1st child and got a BFP, I am hoping my pregnancy hormones just aren't kicking yet, so wish me luck as I test in the morning. ;-)

  • Hi there -- I don't have an answer for you but just wanted to say hello and welcome, from one newbie to another.

If you'd like more precision in knowing whether you're actually "late" I'd recommend temping.  Sometimes your O is delayed so you're not actually late at all in a longer-than-normal cycle.

  • I have heard every story under the sun-- from people I know to people posting on forums-- about HPTs. People have tested + at 7DPO, lots at 10DPO, my sister's friend at 17DPO, my friend who had her period and only after it was over did she test + (she wasn't feeling well and took the test to shut her friends up), etc.

So heck-- anything is possible! Clearly, our bodies don't read the HPT packages or textbooks!

Welcome to the board-- I've only been here for a few weeks myself (this is my 6th month of TTC) but the women here are a wealth of knowledge, support, good humour, and overall loveliness.

FX for a BFP tomorrow for you!

With DS, I had 3 negative pg tests. I got a negative and then that night peak on my CBEFM. DH was out of town until the next day. I actually went and bought another O test stick to see what was going on the next morning - two smiley faces. I was waiting for H to get home since I figured my cycle had gone crazy and I was Oing late (I never did get a peak that month). I googled what would cause it and read sometimes the O tests pick-up pg hormones faster than pg tests. I then took a pg test again and it was positive.
