New and Question??

Hi Ladies I am new to this board and I have been reading some of the posts to try to gain insight but am still confused so thought I would ask the question.

I have had 4 postitive HPTs over the last 4 days. When I called my Dr. to confirm the pregnancy they couldn't schedule me until April 10. This is my first time and just want to make sure I do things right since I have read to call your Dr. after you had postive HPTs.

My question is for those that have done this before, should I just wait until the April 10 appt or should I try and do something else.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much in advance!

Re: New and Question??

  • Good Questions because I was wondering the same thing today.  With my first, the doctor had me come in to come with blood and urine. This doctor that I am seeing now wants to wait until I am 8 weeks.  The wait is going to stink but I see why now.

  • Sounds to me like you're pregnant and you're getting in to see the doc relatively early.

I called after my BFP around 1 month ago and won't have my first appointment until next Monday. So just be thankful you have a short wait and relax.

Also, be sure you know what to expect at the first appointment. I have no idea how far along you are but it would be good to know if you can expect just routine blood work or if you'll be getting an ultrasound. I can only imagine how frustrating/sad it would be to expect to see the baby and to find out you won't until another month goes by.

  • I was the same way when I first found out and couldn't wait the two weeks for my appt so I did an early morning walk in on one of the days I know my doc is usually slow. That help me get peace of mind and get the doc results I needed! I was already 61/2 weeks when I walked in and was glad I did! Hope this helps!

  • My doctor schedules the first appointment at 8 weeks and doesn't do any confirmatory tests before then.

Lots of doctors schedule first appointments between 8-12 weeks unless there are problems with the pregnancy (like spotting with painful cramping), or issues with previous pregnancies.

Your HPT is enough to tell you that you're pregnant so you don't need to confirm with your doctor.

Some things you may want to avoid in the mean time are baths that are too hot, fish with higher mercury content, and start taking a prenatal vitamin .

  • I took those cheapy wondfo tests like .. every other day until my dr. appt bc I just couldn't believe it. :)

My appt was about a month after I got my first BFP so thats right on target! Just take your prenatals and hold on tight !

Thank you all so much for your replies, they are quite helpful and I'll wait and see what happens April 10.

My estimate is probably 5 weeks on Saturday so I would only be about 6 1/2 weeks on the appointment so it sounds like from what Ive read it would probably be too early for an u/s and just blood work?

And congratulations and good luck to everyone as well!!!
