Pink eye?

So DD went to the doc this weekend and she has an ear infection along with a cough and a cold.  This morning when I was getting her ready for daycare I noticed she had just a little gunk in her eye.  It wiped right off with a wet rag.  My question is, how do you tell the difference b/t a regular cold and pink eye?

Re: Pink eye?

  • We just had this probably with our son. According to his pediatrician, the gunk is due to the cold. If the sinuses get back ed up because of congestion it will come out of their eyes. I thought DS had pink eye so that is why I took him in. They said as long as the white parts of his eyes were white it was not pink eye, it was just due to his cold, cough, and congestion.

  • Thanks.  No redness yet.  She just started her 3rd week of daycare and already is sick.  At least she is building up her immune system early.Big Smile

  • no problem. My son has been in daycare for 5 months now and unfortunately has already had bacterial meningitis, bronchitis, and 5 ear infections. We have an appointment for tubes soon. If her eyes do start to turn red, definitely take her in. Hope she feels better.
