3rd Trimester

At home inducing?

There are so many myths about what will help to get labor going, does anyone have anything that actually worked?  I tried everything with my daughter and she came a week and a half late.  I'm so ready to have this baby and the thought of being pregnant for two weeks is torture!  Also, I've heard a lot about drinking a small amount of castor oil, but it just sounds strange to me...is it really safe?  I don't want to do anything that may be unhealthy....TIA!!

Re: At home inducing?

  • I heard some disturbing info from a nurse about drinking castor oil- it makes you poo and can also make the baby poo in-utero since it passes over the placenta.  Not a safe thing to do IMO!

  • My husbands boss asked me if I wanted some Castor Oil today.  I was like thanks but I'll pass.  DH's boss is an awesome guy and was totally playing but he said back when he was having his children lots of women drank it.  I was like no way in hell I am coming near that.  Yuck!  He said, well just let me know if you change your mind.

I would say sex but my DH won't come near me.  I have read that people drink that raspberry leaf tea but I'm not sure how true that is.

  • my doc was adiment that nipple stimulation does wonders... it took my hubby aback when he was so matter of fact about it.
  • i think you should only try these things if you are over due and your dr recommends... sounds unnatural to me... especially oil thing...

if you read about nipple stimulation it has to be done for 15minutes on each breast every hour for days... also research shows it brings about more painful contractions but without anymore progress than normal painful contractions... id be careful.
