Painful groin?

I'm almost 20 weeks and there are times it really hurts, even when I walk. I've spoked to my doctors and they said it's normal?? I get my muscles are stretching but it's worrisome. I had a wedding last nite where after sitting for a few hours it really hurt, I had to walk slow to the car. Did others experience this? And if so does it last the whole pregnancy?

Re: Painful groin?

  • It's something that probably most MoM's experience, and a lot of women pregnant with a singleton. It's nothing to worry about, it's just pressure on your cervix from the weight of the baby, slash round ligament pain, slash that whole area loosening up to prepare for the birth. No worries. I have had it since about week 21. It is worst in the morning for me, although I get flashes of pain there all the time.

  • I've had it for a while now.  I actually read about it on baby center I think, it was called SPD.  I don't remember what it stood for.  There was somethibg else similar but I don't remember what, this one more sounded like me.  Mine flares up worse in the afternoon after a lot of movement.  I have been trying some of the tips in the article and it does seem to help some.  Check it out and GL!

  • do you get regular cervical checks? i get it all the time. i can't even go to the grocery store without sharp pains (i might be a big baby though) my doctor gave me something called indocin, it's an nonsteroidal antiinflammatory for when it gets really bad. i haven't taken it yet though, i'll let you know when i do. the worst part for me is the RLP i can't walk when i get that really bad. hope you feel better!

  • I get it really bad in the afternoon after I sit at my desk for awhile.  It's even more aggravated if I have to pee... So I end up getting up and walking bow-legged/waddling to the bathroom.  After I walk a bit it feels better.
  • I get this too, especially after I've been sitting in my office chair for awhile. I asked my OB about it a few days ago and she said it's normal, just the ligaments stretching up after being tighter/less stretchy after sitting awhile. It's very uncomfortable but at least it's normal!

  • Wow you guys really helped me. I've been so upset thinking it was something going wrong and your posts have given me relief. I see my Ob and MFM this week and I will definitely bring up SPD. Does it go away after birth?
  • SPD is symphysis pubis dysfunction when the ligament that joins your pelvic bones separates. It is not too uncommon but definitely a big pain, literally and figuratively! I have been having pain off and most of the pregnancy (had it with my singletons but not this severe) and suddenly this afternoon it is unbearable. Tomorrow I am going to wear my support belt all day and see if it helps. If not I have an appointment on Thursday and will mention it then.

  • had it with DD and now have it with these two...ouch.  it's like all of a sudden i have to stop dead in my tracks bc i feel like i have to buckle my legs from pain so YES! common in both singleton and twin pregnancies....just comes with the territory!! i was nervous the pain wouldn't go away when i had my DD and it obv. did ....now the twins i know that once they arrive it will disappear!
