Babies: 6 - 9 Months

eating machine...

So I seriously have an eating machine.  He wants to eat everything we eat all the time!  So tonight I was holding him on my lap while I was finishing dinner, and he just took his hand right into my rice and chicken bowl and just helped himself.  It was a sante fe chicken with mild seasonings (I made it from scratch), nothing chokable.  I just let him go to town and he loved it!  I think he is really sick of the purees and rather eat our food.  Any of you just ditch the purees already at 8 months?  I feel like he can eat almost anything at this point....

Re: eating machine...

  • I ditched the purees a week ago after slowly making her food chunkier. She is so much happier feeding herself stuff I put on her tray or eating what we eat. It's so funny when I eat I get an audience. Her and the dog. They each get their turn with a bite.

I think it all depends on your LO and if you think they are ready. A friend of mine gives me the side eye because I stopped purees already, but her kid is no where ready for it so I can see why she would think mine isn't.

You can always try! Good Luck!

  • We never did purees, we did BLW and both DH and I think it was one of the best decisions we've made. It's great watching LO eat what we're eating and loving it! DD did this to my spinach and tofu curry a few months back, we were out at a bazar and I hadn't planned on giving her any, I guess she was annoyed at me for that!

  • We started dropping purees about a month ago.  DS much prefers to feed himself.  He also eats a ton and thinks any food within sight should be his and is very vocal about it!

  • DD is the same, we can't eat a meal or snack around her without her demanding a bite (of course, she doesn't always get one).  Anyway, I'm going to start slowly offering more finger foods as I finish out my current stock of homemade purees.  She is doing fine with puffs and small pieces of banana, so I don't see any need to continue with purees "just because".  I'm hoping by the time we introduce meats, we can just offer little bites of ground turkey/ground chicken to start and skip the grossness of meat purees entirely.  The sooner she's eating what we're eating, the better, in terms of convenience!
