How many times per day are you offering foods?
How many different things at each meal?
Our daycare is telling us that LO is really HUNGRY and they want us to send more food, but their policy is anti-BLW (so they say). LO is barely finishing her bottles at daycare, so I am hesitant to add foods when she's not taking her bottles. I am thinking if we did more at home...? But I don't want to overdo it.
I've heard "food before 1, just for fun" but I'm not sure how that translates into how much food to have fun with. I'd like LO to take her bottles, too!
Thanks!
Re: BLWing at 8+ months
My LO is almost 8 months. We do 3 meals a day, but DC is on board with BLW so it's ok. She only eats about 1 tbsp a meal though so it's not like she's getting as much as the puree kids (I saw one go through 2 full stage 2/3 jars in one sitting!)
Anyway, we do oatmeal fingers in the morning, some veggie for lunch - sweet potatoes, broccoli, etc. and then some veggie and carb for dinner. We've also been giving yogurt and she loves it. We don't BLW that but I let her take the spoon and bring it to her mouth and I stop when she loses interest.
On the weekends, we sometimes give her snacks. I'm going to introduce puffs soon, but I don't want her to fill up on it.
Is it an option to offer your child's primary caregiver the book to read? It's a fast read and I feel like most people who read it would stop being so "anti"...especially with an 8 month old.
Our DC is VERY cya...like, I had to have my pedi sign that my LO could be swaddled for naps. But they have been offering LO foods BLWing-style since the day he turned 6 months. I just circle everything on the monthly menu that he can have, and he eats with the older infants/near toddlers. And they're amazed every day how quickly he is getting it and how much more fun it is for everyone.
Just wondered if they read the book if they might be a little more easy going about it?
GL!!
I don't do BLWing but I totally agree with this statement. I am a child care teacher and I totally think you need to tell them what you want. Don't let them tell you "how it has to be".
And from reading your last response about them combining your bottles to feed your LO less often I feel you need to talk with the director at that center or find a new child care center.
Will someone please tell me what BLW is?
Baby-led Weaning. Letting your baby feed themselves from the get-go. No spoon-feeding, no purees. Pretty easy to look up more info online if you're interested to learn more.
Hope that helps!
