Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Just a ?, I know every baby is different :)

What age did your LOs start scooting? Crawling? Walking? DD is almost 7 months, she tries to push herself up but isn't going anywhere. No rush, just curious :) Loving her little milestones.

Also, when you've begun solids do you lower the amount of formula/BM you give them?I know you should feed on demand but I was on the Gerber site and it was showing 4 oz. for feedings. Again, just curious. She's taking 5 oz now.

TIA

Re: Just a ?, I know every baby is different :)

  • DD1 was scooting around 6-7 months, crawling and pulling up to cruise holding onto furniture at 8 months, but didn't walk independently until 12 months. DD2 is 6 months and already scooting and pushing up on hands and knees and just minutes from crawling. She has the leg motion down but not the arms, so she just face plants :)

At this age you should not be lessening their BM/formula intake. As they get closer to a year (think 9+ months) they will naturally take less as they start the transition to an all solids diet, but BM/formula is their main nutrition until a year old.

  • Lol yes DD face plants too. She also puts her face on the floor and bounces her bum in the air. And thanks on the formula question. I knew that solids were really more like treats until she's older, that formula was their main source. May explain why she's been sleeping terribly the past 2 nights, she's on meds for thrush and has only been drinking 4 oz the past few days. I'm a FTM so I'm looking for answers all over the place, her pedi wasn't much help when we saw him last friday. I'll keep her at 5. Thanks :)

  • I don't remember scooting, but DD1 crawled the day before 7 months, and walked right before 11 mo. DD2 started crawling the day she turned 7 months but started pulling up a few days later. It's been about a month and she is cruising, standing and holding on to something with one hand and now starting to try to let go and stand without holding anything. I think she will be walking before her sister did. From what I know, they were both pretty early with these particular milestones. I have nieces/nephews who didn't walk until 14 mo old and they are all perfectly up to speed developmentally.

  • DD started crawling right before she turned 6 months, started sitting up the week she turned 6 months. She pulled up on the couch the first time today.

  • DD scooted around 5 months, hasn't crawled yet, not walking.

  • Crawled at 6 mo and 1 day.  Pulled up on furniture at 6.5 months. No cruising though...he just goes straight up and down.

We nurse 5x a day. He STTN, so yes. Less bm.

  • Still no scooting, crawling, or pulling up here.  She rolls instead.  DD1 was pulling up and scooting by now, crawling just before 8 months, walking at 11 months.  DD2 just seems less interested - she did twist around and get herself into a sit yesterday, and DD1 didn't do that until 8+ months.

  • DS crawled at 6.5 months and starting standing up in his crib like a week after that. He is now standing for a few seconds without holding onto anything . so far he still is taking in 30 oz of formula plus 3 solid feedings he's a big boy

  • My daughter isn't scooting or anything yet. She will stick her butt in the air when on her belly but nothing yet. I was mainly responding to your food question. I am still trying to figure out what she wants/needs. She normally eats 7 oz breastmilk twice a day. She eats 4oz baby food with 1 tsp rice cereal for lunch. She normally seems full. Today I gave her 4oz milk behind it. She drank it all but not fast and was playing with the bottle. For supper we do 2 oz baby food, 1 tspn rice cereal and 5 oz milk. Yesterday I gave her a snack an hour before supper of 4 oz milk. Like I said, I'm still trying to figure out how much to give her so we are doing different things.. but he milk intake did go down when we added baby food, which makes me happy since I can freeze some milk!
