AM poop

My LO has a bad habit of pooping right before we leave for daycare or on the walk to daycare... they count anything that escapes the diaper as 'diarrhea' and he will get sent home if he has 2 in one day... which happens a lot.  Does this happen to anyone else?  Is there anything I can do or feed him to help him poop sooner?  It's hard to take a day and a half off every 2 weeks!

  • I'm with PP. You might really need to check the sizes or try a different brand. I have had only one leaky diaper on DD and it was more of an explosion than anything.

  • I disagree that poo-splosions mean you need a new size or new brand of diaper.  My LO has "uncontained" poos almost everyday at daycare.  We buy whatever diaper is on sale and have used name-brand and no-name diapers.  We also did cloth for a while until LO's bright red bum told us NO MORE.  The CDs contained the poo much better, I will say....but I won't put my LO through having a painful and irritated bum for the sake of using the CDs.

Only just recently, my LO has changed her poo schedule.  She used to go in the AM in the wee hours, and be WIDE AWAKE haha.  So we were taking an over-tired baby to daycare, who then wouldn't sleep....  Thankfully, she now poos around 3 or 4pm, which is right when I am picking her up.

My LO has never been sent home for her uncontaineds, even if she has more than one per day.  Sounds like your daycare is either (a) overly cautious, which is not a bad thing, or (b) looking for reasons to send kids home.  My friend's kid used to get sent home a lot for his uncontaineds, and my friend used to count the number of babies when she would get there, and they were at their max.  She thinks they used it as an excuse to lower the # of babies.....  She would wait in the parking lot and then see a teacher leave for the day.  Not right.

  • What does she eat?  My LO nurses around 7am... then eats (food or bottle) about every 2 hours at daycare... nurses sometime shortly after I pick him up at 3:45pm, then about hourly with dinner around 7... bedtime between 8 and 9, usually nursing to sleep.  He eats three solid meals a day, two at daycare, one at dinnertime; I'm trying to do one grain, one veg, one fruit.  He's not into finger foods, though I offer them daily.  The pedi wasn't very specific about what he wants the baby to be eating so I'm just trying to keep it balanced.  PS I'm not sure how often he nurses overnight... he sleeps in his crib then when he wakes up (my husband thinks it was 12:30 last night) we take him into bed and I nurse him whenever he wakes up.
