Baby Names

How should I spell her name?

I've decided to name my daughter Scarlett/Scarlet but can't figure out if I want to spell it with one T or two. I've seen it spelt both ways before.

I'm leaning more to two Ts and having it Scarlett.

Opinions? I'm not sure what I'm going to give her as a middle name. Possibly my middle name. Scarlett Rae.

Re: How should I spell her name?

  • I prefer one t. I don't like extra letters.

  • A friend of mine from HS named her daughter with the two t's, so now I'm used to seeing it that way, and prefer it that way.

  • I also prefer Scarlett, like Scarlett O'Hara.  To me, scarlet is the color, Scarlett is the name, but I think it is all just personal preference.

  • I like it better with two Ts. But I don't mind it spelled with just one, either. Rae is NMS, but Scarlett Rae is cute.

    Yes

    Me too, ditto.

  • I like 2 t's... not for any particular reason, I just think it looks more like a name.  And I am not typically and "extra letter" fan.

This is exactly what I was thinking. 1 T = color, 2 Ts = name.

  • I like 2 t's.  Scarlett Rae is a great name.

  • I could be wrong, but it seems like Scarlett (2 T's) is the more common spelling - I would go with that.

  • Definitely, definitely Scarlett.

Scarlet is a color. Scarlett is a name---a name that didn't even really "exist" as a first name until the advent of Gone with the Wind (the character's actual first name is Katherine; she goes by her middle name, which is also her grandmother's maiden name, Scarlett). Give credit where credit is due, and spell the name correctly.

  • I feel like two T's makes it a name, whereas with one T it's just a color, so I like Scarlett better.

    Either one is fine, though.

  • Double T's. Rose works well as MN.

I didn't even know this. I've tried looking up information on the name Scarlett and never came across this. Thanks for the information :)

Thank you for your opinions ladies. My gut told me two Ts. I think I just needed to know for sure.

I'm hearing a lot of "I" and "my."

    I'd go with Scarlett.

Yes you are, there is no 'we' or 'us'. XH is in prison and wants nothing to do with his daughter so it's my call on her name obviously.

Gotcha. I'm very sorry you're having to go at this alone. Best of luck to you.

  • Two t's. I don't know if I like Rae for a middle name. Scarlett sounds so classic- maybe Rose?

  • Definitely not Scarlett Rose....think about it. It'd be like naming your kid Magenta Fushia.
