3rd Trimester

Painful Sinus Infection

I have the worst sinus infection right now...my face hurts so badly that I can barely open up my mouth all the way. The doctor gave me an antibiotic yesterday (which has yet to kick in). What have your doctors given you for a sinus infection while pregnant?

Re: Painful Sinus Infection

  • you can always take tylenol for pain.

  • That's what I have been taking, but it's not touching the pain...hopefully it's on it's way out...keeping fingers crossed!
  • I'd recommend using a neti pot while you're waiting for the antibiotic to start working. I've had 2 sinus infections during this pregnancy and it really helped both times.

just make sure that you boil the water then let it cool a bit before you use it.  I know the risk is pretty low, but there can be amoebas in the water that are able to get into your brain.  I know it sounds very sci-fi but I actually know of someone who died from amoebas in the water.  not worth the risk IMO.

  • My dr gave me the z pack when I had a sinus infection last week. I took that along with using the neti pot rinse. I also had a lot of soup and water. Feel better!

  • A saline nasal spray (ie: netty pot, but I like the bottle not the tea pot) works AMAZING. seriously.

stop. get the netti pot. and don't use swap water to fill the bottle. I PROMISE you'll be fine.

  • Thanks, ladies! Hopefully something will bring some relief!!
  • My Dr. told me I can take Sudafed during the day and Benadryl at night. It stinks, I am going through the same thing right now!
