I nursed with my first for a couple months and never wore a nursing bra. Almost every article I have read says you need a nursing bra. Do you think It is necessary?? I guess I just nursed at home and I have a cover too...

Probably depends on the size of your boobs. I wouldn't have been able to continue nursing/pump when I returned to work without a good nursing bra, but I was a 36DD pre-pg and a 38G/H once my milk came in. A good friend of mine never bought a nursing bra, and just wore the nursing tanks from Target under her regular clothes, and had plenty of support - but she was maybe a 36C when her milk came in.

I totally would not have been able to bf without one, and I really, really couldn't have pumped at work without one because my hands free pump connected to the hook parts of my nursing bra. I also had D cups while nursing so hanging out without a bra on wasn't really an option. I guess if you just sometimes bf it might be okay but my plan last time and this time is EBF so it's really a must for me to wear a nursing bra.
I nursed anywhere and everywhere, in front of anyone. Usually with a cover or a muslin blanket, but there were times when I could do it discretely without one. I could not have done it without a nursing bra.
I was able to nurse with out one but not until ds was much older like around 6 or 7 months we both got good enough at what we were doing that I could wear a normal bra and just pull it down. BUT up until that point I needed a nursing bra to be able to nurse easily I didn't like the tanks not enough support. In the very beginning I used front open sports bra's not nursing from Walmart they were 2 for $10 and very comfy and had the added support I needed when my milk came in.

I definitely needed the support too.
