Anyone do the Sleep Lady Shuffle?

Can you share your experience? This tired mama says thanks!

Re: Anyone do the Sleep Lady Shuffle?

  • My daughter was 15-16 months when we did it. She was already STTN, but still nursing to sleep and when I dried up we needed to help her fall asleep on her own. We actually started with shush and pat to get her to stop freaking out as soon as we put her in the crib. Once she was calm going into the crib I would lay on the floor next to it (yay 1st tri nausea). I kind of winged it and didn't follow the plan explicitly - I probably spent more than the suggested amount of time in one spot before moving closer to the door, but the whole thing including the shush and pat took less than 2 weeks. I was actually amazed at how calm she stayed while I was in there, I expected her to want to play, but when I didn't interact with her she seemed to get bored fast and lay down. One other thing we did was her musical seahorse. A week or so before starting I brought him into the rocking chair with us so she got used to having that while falling asleep and it really went a long way as a transition item.

So I guess we did a combo of a few things, but same principle. Ever since I've been able to rock her a few minutes before she says "ready" and I put her in the crib with seahorse and say goodnight.

  • We also did it about 15 months to transition from bedsharing to her own crib.  Worked GREAT.  It seemed like my daughter was really ready for it.  We were at the point of rocking her for 2 hrs to get her to sleep.  Almost no tears (we are very AP and don't do CIO at all), and by the 4th night we didn't even need to be there.

I am not a big fan of her newborn recommendations (I think nursing on demand is critical) but her toddler thing totally worked for us.
