1st Trimester

So stressed. (kinda long)

I watch my friends little one between 55 and 77 hours a week and I am so over stressed it's not funny. He is a real handful and I am not just talking about busy. He is very delayed and can't even talk or show us where his nose is etc. His mom is a lazy pain that just ignores him when he is at home and doesn't take him out or anything. He spent his first year of his life in a small basement apt and never went out to the park or anything. I am a trained ECE and have some training with children with special needs. I can handle a class room of kids then I can him right now. I feel so bad but I am going to tell you tonight that as of April 15 so one month from now I am cutting back my hours to just when she works the closing shift. She is a single mom and says he can't get help with daycare because she makes to much. I know that she can because I know the laws when it comes to subsidy and daycare since I went to school for that. She is just lazy and I had enough. We live in Canada also so I know there is help for her. She works shifts at Wal-mart so I am not completely quitting because I know daycare don't have the best hours but she really needs to do something. I am worried about my health and the health of my unborn child. Uggg Sorry for the rant I just needed to vent a little. Anyway wish me luck with talking to her tonight. This should be fun.

Re: So stressed. (kinda long)

  • Refer her to someone who specializes in early childhood development, that's my profession in the states but I'm not sure about the programs in Canada. We have one that goes from birth to 3. It's much better to start intervention and parenting education now rather than have a child backed up at school age. Often a parenting educator can help assist with gov't funding by teaching the parent what is available.

That being said, if you're not being paid for your work it's time to stop being the doormat and adding to her laziness. She'll never learn if things are handed to her. You and your baby are #1, best of luck talking to her, sending you thoughts and best wishes!

  • Thanks I am being paid but only $500 a month which is horrible. I do feel like doormat and I had a long talk with her tonight. Poor kid needs professional help and I am not the one to give him it. Looks like she is taking me serious now and she said she has a call in to a day care to set up a meet and greet for next week hopefully. I love the little guy like a nephew and always will be there for him it's just so hard. Thanks for the kind words!
