1st Trimester

2nd time around, DH participation?

For those second, third or fourth-timers are your husbands going to all the appointments or is it a little less important this time around? DH always looks to me to see if I really want him there but it's so much work to get our schedules to come together. He went to my last one where we heard the heartbeat and I'm sure he'll want to be at the gender u/s but are there any other important ones?

This time around I'm also getting a lot less sympathy. And since I struggled with losing extra baby weight last time, took me 6-8 months to shed it all, now he's paying attention to my extra ice cream snacks and my second helpings. He is trying to be helpful since I had horrible body image last time but it just feels like a lot of pressure. ...is it time for lunch yet?

  • We're going to do everything the same as before.  He went to the 1st appt to see & hear the baby.  He'll also go to the 20 week u/s too.  To be honest, I don't even want to go to all the other appts.  They are so short, I usually sit in the waiting room longer than I see the dr!

I have a feeling I'll gain more weight this time around since I already put on 8lbs!  Hopefully it will all even out in the end.  Also, now that it's getting warmer out I'll be more active with DD during the day, taking walks, going to the park, swimming, etc.

  • dh is planning on coming to any appt that includes an u/s. i dont see a point coming to the general check since they are so short and to the point.
  • I have no clue if he's going. I try to schedule my Dr. appointments on Saturdays, and let him know.

But if DD is sick or DH has something else to do he might not get into them.

I was very anal of DH going to the u/s when pregnant with K. Now I really don't care so much.

I've already gained a lot of weight too... something like 10lbs but I'm trying to resist my cravings and be more aware from now on. I have also been taking DS for walks everyday. It's hard to be lazy when you have a toddler who loves to be outside.

  • Other than my glucose testing appt (b/c we didnt think DS would be good for that long) DH has come to every appt. But he works weekends so he always has one day off a wk so he doesnt have to take off of work to come. I like him there 1. there is always that "what if I get bad news..." 2. DH isnt a dr but is in the medical field so he pays more attention and understands the blood pressure and any meds they talk about, where as i wait for the "everythings fine" 3. in first tri I had horrible m/s so it was important for DH to know the signs of dehydration and when/if I needed to get go to the ER, and now I have a hernia so I like him hearing from the Dr that I need to take it easy.

  • last time was a little different because he worked for his dad and could easily get off to check on the baby with me. this time, he works for our church and gets fridays off, so i'm going to try and make appointments on fridays so he can go. but i think when it comes to routine check-ups, i'll probably insist he stay with our daughter so i can go stress-free by myself. i guess we'll play it by ear with each appointment. :)
