Fed up with my neighbors - not baby related

My neighbors have two dogs and they continually allow their dogs to roam the neighborhood.  They have no fenced in yard and the dogs are always offleash.  The dogs have been using my front lawn as their toilet and the neighbors never pick it up since they are usually inside while their dogs are outside by themselves.  I just want over to talk to them and they were so nice and apologetic but this is the third time I've had this conversation with them.  I'm so frustrated and angry and I just don't know what to do anymore.  I hate them so much.  Thanks for letting me vent.

Re: Fed up with my neighbors - not baby related

  • I had a similar situation with my neighbors.  I played nice and went over to talk to them, but after the second time I was done.  Not only did the dogs get out, but they barked incessantly all night long.  Probably because the owners did not pay any attention to them.

Anyways I called animal control.  The neighbors were sent a letter and a fine.  They apparently loved the dogs so much that they got rid of them and told animal control that they never had any dogs and my Husband and I were racist.  Animal control sent out a person to talk to us and had to laugh when they realized my husband is the same race they are.  Well it didn't make for friendly neighbors, which is sad, but my H and I can now sleep and other neighbors were happy with the outcome as well.

I still wonder to this day what they did with the poor dogs though.

  • as hard as it is to say it... I think you need to call animal control about it... like the pp had to do...

they are supposed to be a responsible pet owner, and that is not responsible at all...

  • Yep, call animal control.  I've done that twice for neighbors that were physically abusing their dogs (I witnessed it from the second story and saw them beating the dogs in the back yard), and neglecting them / letting them run around off leash.  You could see their ribs poking out, poor animals.

I was able to make an anonymous complaint in the instance where I saw the dog being abused.

  • As someone who has worked at animal shelters, please call animal control.  Most cities have a leash law.  It is not safe for the dogs or the public for them to roam.  So many awful things can happen to the dogs when they aloud to roam.

  • Uhg! I had the same problem before we moved out of our apartment complex - some people just don't care if their dog s#its right in front of your walk way. So frustrating. Unfortunatly it sounds like it's time to make that unpleasant call to animal control.

  • Ugh, practically all the dog owners in our neighborhood do this.  I'm not sure which irritate me more -- the ones who let their enormous hellhounds accost me and my little spaniel whenever we're outside, or the crazy bish down the street who lets her defenseless Yorkie puppy wander loose around the neighborhood.  The next time I encounter any of the above, I'm calling animal control.  In the case of the Yorkie, it would be for its own safety.
  • My parents are in the country, so there's different rules and expectations for dog owners, but I'm more of a city girl and it irritates me to no end when I visit and three different dirty, flea-ridden "neighborhood" dogs come on the property and start knocking my kids over and jumping on me.  They are all nice dogs, but they are lonely and neglected so they come to my parents' house because we're outside alot.

At my old house, a neighbor would let their 1 yo Pitt puppy run loose.  She was nice enough, but very scary looking.  I had friends trapped in their car and afraid to get out to come to the house because the dog was in my yard barking and growling at them like it was her territory.  The city eventually took the neighbor's dog AND her kids away.  She was a major alcoholic.

  • I once had the same problem with a neighbor's cats.  We lived in townhouses with teeny tiny yards.  I planted flowers and put some mulch down in my flower bed and her cats (all 4 of them) thought it was Christmas or something.  They got to using my yard so bad that you couldn't walk out there at all without stepping in it and the smell was intolerable.

  • Definitely call animal control!! My neighbors do the same thing and the last straw was when their dogs actually knocked me over because I had my dogs on a leash, this was at 5 months pregnant. We were friends with them until we threatened calling animal control and I unleashed pregnant fury on them. Now we no longer speak.

  • My mom lives in the middle of no where. The nearest animal control is an hour away. I was visiting and there was a stray dog that wouldn't leave my mom's dogs alone (a lab & chihuahua) so I got upset and I called animal control and brought the dog there. The owner, as it turns out, is a guy who lives on a farm 2 miles from my mom's house. He was pissed because the dog was an hour away. He was elderly and couldn't properly care for the dog so animal control didn't give him his dog back. I get he lived on a farm, but my mom's dogs have tags and a leash on them when they go outside.

I would call animal control until those people got the hint!

Wow!  That's awful!  Thank god you and your baby were ok.  Luckily these dogs are little, yappy things (probably weigh only 10 pounds each) and they don't like people much so they run back home once you chase them away.  They really are just a nuisance.  The fact that they are little dogs is probably why the owners don't think it's such a big deal that they are out.  But it's disgusting when they poop all over my lawn.
