Sun shades for rear window?

I drive a Mustang and I know the sun shines down through the rear window because the rear window is huge.

However here's my dilemma, would you buy a special rear window sun shade because they're bigger or would you buy just some of the regular ones and use 2 of those?

WHen I went to get my caraway checked , the fireman told me that the pull down sun shades aren't recommended anymore because they have the risk to become unattached during an accident and be potentially hazardous if it hit anyone in the car. Who knew. Anyways, we bought the stick on shades (like pieces of tint) and I bought 2 for my big back windows.

I wish I knew that before I bought one.  Grr.  Mine has suction cups and little hooks that can go over the window - I haven't tried those yet, I hope they don't interfere too much with the window closing all the way.

It hasn't seemed to affect it, but I'll let you know if I find it does. I got Eddie Bauer brand.

This ^.  My hubby is a firefighter and used to do the carseat inspections. We won't be having any loose shades, mirrors, toys, etc. since they are a hazard in the case of an accident. I like the stick-on idea!

My husband is going to be looking into tinting my rear window (and 2 tiny little rear side windows) in my 03 Eclipse. It's pretty much our only option because of the angle and size of the window. They don't make the cling ones big enough without us having to buy at least 4 or 5. (that and he's wanted to tint my windows since I got the car)

Well that's good to know. I was actually thinking about that, but I did find some that are the cling ones vs. the suction cup ones. I think the clinging ones make more sense anyways because I'm paranoid. I worry she might want to grab it or something and if she some how gets a hold of something that would make it so it could get knocked off the windows it would hit her or yeah...I'm a paranoid parent..haha

I would tint my car windows, illegal or not, before I put a shade up...

Check the laws in your state before you do it.  In MN, you cannot tint the windows as dark as the sun shades are.

Ah, the beauty of Iowa and its loose laws around window tinting I can go up to 70% light blocking, very close if not better than a static cling shade. Also far easier to see through since it's essentially part of the window, not just a dotted piece of plastic on my window.

 

Eta: turns out there is no limit to how dark my rear windows can be tinted in Iowa.

I live in Cali and actually just got my windows tinted today - I have a smaller car and it was pretty affordable.  The place I went to knew all the rules and regulations regarding darkness and the car looks great - I would highly recommend doing it.  I was a little skeptical at first since my car is slightly older, thinking it would look weird or cheap but I am glad we spent the money to get it professionally done.  It was $165 for all four windows.

I would tint my windows, but my car is a "project car". My mom is paying for the finishing stuff on my car (installing the a/c in it since it was made without a/c because it's a race car) when it comes to function-ability. But tinting I'm going to do after we redo the body, so it's just sun shades for now..
