First Ultrasound off by 3 days??

According to FF I should have been 6 weeks today, but the transvaginal ultrasound I had done today said 5 weeks and 4 days? All we saw was gestational sac and yolk sac. My cycles are irregular, so I know it is possible, but has this happened to anyone else- ovulation date and first ultrasound off? Dr said at 5 weeks 4 days that is all they should see, but I am worried bc last pregnancy was a blighted ovum pregnancy, all we saw at 7 weeks was a gestational sac nothing in it. Thoughts and prayers needed!! Thanks in advance ladies!

Remember that sperm can live in your body 3-5 days after sex.

I know I ovulated late on day 21. My first ultrasound was at 6 weeks and 5 days but baby measured 6 weeks and 1 day- it makes sense. It didn't implant most likely till 5-7 days after ovulation... So it's a little behind!

Thinking of you. My first pregnancy was ectopic and in the first ultrasound of my second pregnancy they kept asking me if I used fertility treatments or if I charted correctly because I was off by a few days and they were concerned there wasn't a fetal pole. I think I must have just ovulated late. That gestational and yolk sac is now a 20-month old cutie! Many wonderful wishes to you!

When we used ovulation tests, I ovulated around day 19, not 14. At my first ultrasound, I was supposed to be 7 weeks & 4days but I measured at 7 weeks & 0 days. I think that's pretty normal.

By the way, at my second ultrasound (I've had issues so I've had extra ultrasounds), I measured only 1 day smaller than my due date suggested. So it's not an exact science & can change a little from ultrasound to ultrasound.

This is within the normal range. You may have ovulated in a different day than you thought, implantation may have taken longer than with some women, the ultrasound's measurements just might be off a bit, or your itty bitty was just about to do some growing before the pic was taken, etc. We did IUI + trigger with DS, so there was zero question of dating. He was 1 day off at 6 weeks and 5 days off by 7 weeks. Even by that early point, ultrasound can be off by 1 week, plus even healthy itties can grow at their own rate. Ultrasound dating is based on averages. Plus, doctors can mess up on clicking the buttons.  It is an imprecise science.

3 days is not a big deal.. there's plenty of natural reasons it could be off. I wouldn't worry!

I have long cycles. I charted with FF and measured 5 days behind at my first ultrasound so I left really nervous and freaked out even though I saw a heartbeat.. I went back today (3 weeks later) and baby measured spot on with FF. My OB said that babies just grow at their own little rates and there is room for error on their machines. Try not to worry, I know not stressing is easier said than done though! Are you going back soon for another u/s?

Three days is nothing, I was off a week.

I was off a week when I had my first U/S. It is very hard to hear that you are measuring earlier than you expected. Tech said it would be better towards the end of the pregnancy to ensure the baby was fully developed. She said it much better. Since the lungs are the last to develop it is better to be off behind then ahead.

A big thank you to all of you ladies for your positive comments and stories. I am really hoping that I am just a few days earlier than I thought and when we go back next week we see a healthy baby with a heartbeat. Not seeing anything but a gestational sac and yolk sack really scared me! Thanks again!

i had the same thing happen with both pregnancies. my first was of by a week and this one was off twelve days.  its hard when you expect one thing and the results come back different. i am sure everything is fine and when you go back next week you will see your baby.
