Sleep Easy Solution

I have read ladies recommend this book a lot on this board and the Sept board. I have enough books on sleep. I would rather not get it unless I feel I would put it into practice. I was hoping to never have to sleep train, but we're all exhausted and frustrated. Our problems: getting rid of the swaddle (trying to wean right now), paci and DS waking up an excessive amount of times at night. He and I slept better when he was a newborn. It's gotten really bad in the past week. This is worse than the 4mw.

How is it different from Ferber? What is the basis of it?

Re: Sleep Easy Solution

  • Not sure how different it is from Ferber, but it worked like a charm.  We had the exact same issues as you except for the paci.  We got rid of the swaddle and started sleep training the same night.  It took 1 night - not a typo.  And we went from waking about 6x per night to 2.  Naps took 3 days to work out.  Highly recommend the book.  So easy to read and implement. I bought 4 other sleep books before deciding that Sleep Easy was the only one I was willing to go with.  Seemed like a good combination between No Cry (which I thought would take forever) and extinction (Healthy Sleep Habits).

I'm reading Healthy Sleep Habits now and I do not like it at all. So is SleepEasy a type of CIO? Intervals?

ETA: I've been trying to wean from the swaddle for just over a week. We did one arm out which went ok (better than expected) and two arms out this weekend. That was disastrous, we were up every 20 minutes.

I didn't like Healthy Sleep Habits at all either.  And it was so long - not what a sleep deprived mom should be attempting to read :)  There is 1 chapter you need to read in Sleep Easy to start and they'll tell you which one it is.  Takes about 15 minutes to read.

It is CIO, but go in at intervals.  Basically it is about establishing a bedtime routine and sticking to it.  We also introduced a blankie which she now LOVES.  You go in after 5 minutes of crying, then 10 minutes later, then 15 minutes later.  The first night it took  DD 28 minutes to fall asleep.  The 2nd night it was 5 (but no crying).  Now she sometimes falls asleep right away and sometimes it takes her 15 minutes but there is rarely any crying.  When there is, I know something is wrong and I go in without question.  The book also talks about a dreamfeed which I didn't do and about night weaning which I also haven't done yet.  Just the sleep training itself cut DD's night wakings from 6 to 2.

DD was like that with the swaddle too.  Actually, we couldn't even do 1 arm out.  We had to do cold turkey and it worked.  Much easier than I expected!

Thanks! No, I agree... HSHHC is really hard to read. It's hard for this overtired momma to focus!

I would love to go back to 1 or 2 night wakings. We all slept better when DS was a newborn - 3m.

    Thanks for the info.
