  • I am just a lurker, not expecting but it sounds like it could be cholestasis. A coworker of mine had it and gave birth to a healthy baby girl last September. I looked it up and info says that it normally occurs in the last trimester but my coworkers started in the mid of her second trimester. Anyway, best thing to do is ask your doctor.

  • I itch all the time doctor said it's just hormones and I have to deal with it lol. I use lotion all the time and I have had some oatmeal bathes so try that. You get use to it after a while but It's really annoying still. My doctor just said it's hormones and any book I have read has said it's hormones as well. If it gets worse I would call your doctor. Good luck with your itching. I hope it passes soon.

Here is a website on itching and cholestasis.

  • My stomach was SO itchy yesterday.  I kept putting lotion on it, which helped a little.  Isn't itching at all today.  Weird!
  • I've been using Palmer's.  They market it for stretch marks, but it has worked so well on my dry skin.

  • I itch in the winter even when I'm not prego.  My doctor told me its the lack of vitamin D that I usually get from being outdoors in the sun.  I have been faithful with the Palmers lotion the last few weeks.  I keep it next to my toilet so I can rub it on my belly and my legs while my pants are already down. I know that sounds weird but its about the only way I can remember and it works for me.  Check your vitamins and see how much D is in them.  When I'm not pregnant I usually take about 400 mgs a day.  Give it a week and you should see a difference.  Its one of the supplements that if your body dont need it then you will pee it out.  Also try shaving with hair conditioner instead of soap or shaving cream.
  • Do you have a rash? If so, it could be PUPPP, which I had in the last trimester of my first pregnancy. It drove me crazy. Definitely tell your OB about it. I remember they recommended a lot of different lotions to try. I think finally they gave me some kind of prescription cream (sorry, it's hard to remember the details now)! Good luck and I hope you get some relief soon!

  • 13 weeks would be publishable in a journal for both PUPPS and cholestasis, as it is incredibly early for these things to happen.  It is possible though, I suppose.  Less so for PUPPS since you don't have a rash.

Talk to your ob.  He/she will have some ideas.  In the meantime, Bag Balm or that funny **THIS IS SPAM** Cream are the best, I've found.  But I'm certainly no lotion expert ;)

  • I had this last time around the 2nd trimester. Definitely mention it to your doctor since it can be any number of things. Last time I ended up taking Claritin for several weeks until it cleared up, I had hives at one point.

Also Aveeno has an Anti-Itch line, that was the only lotion that kept me from going insane. Aloe Vera gel helped too but it didn't last as long.

    Good luck!
