what's a great pack n play/play yard?

I'm trying to pick out a great pack n play/play yard for my baby registry.I'd like to find one that's durable, steady and comfy for the baby to sleep in when he's not in his crib. Any suggestions?

  • We have a graco for our DS and liked it enough that we bought a second one for the new baby.  Very sturdy, the bassinet feature is great for newborns and we never had a problem with the changing table leaning until DS was around 12+ lbs.  Also, we've traveled with it several times and it's easy to take down and put up and DS sleeps great in it.

  • It so very much depends on what you are looking for in one and when you plan to use it.  If you are thinking for somewhere else in the house, you may be better off with a bassinet.  If you are thinking about when you travel, I highly recommend the Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light.  If for in your room for the first few months, most all of them are about the same, really.  I loved the Arm's Reach (does not have to be used as a co-sleeper attached to the bed; it can be used with all four sides up).

You probably will not want to have one with a "newborn napper" be where baby settles in for the night.  Those are really designed for shorter periods of sleep.  That said, the Arm's Reach is nice and high but a larger surface so you don't have to bend down so much...trust me, it adds up!

  • We have a Chicco Lullaby play yard and use it with the MamaDoo Kids mattress topper for much needed extra comfort(our son would wake up every hour!). We take them with us when we go to visit family or travel. But I have seen some Graco pack n plays and they seem very similar. Good luck!
