I miss the gym :(

I never thought i'd say this but I really miss the gym. I still work out but taking it lightly is hard for me. I've always been a "go as hard as you can because you dont have much time so make it count" person. I miss sweating profusely and turning red to the point i cant breathe. Sounds like a terrible time, but I always felt so good after. The weight gain is also hard for me. I know i'm housing a healthy little human but to see the scale creep up scares me.  I know I shouldn't complain as its only a few months of my life and then I will get the greatest joy of all - just needed to vent. Thanks for listening! :)

Re: I miss the gym :(

  • I'm 20 weeks too!  I empathize - I miss horse riding desperately.  But I am filling my time with a new hobby - yoga - which I really enjoy.  I do both prenatal and regular classes.  I actually have to take it easy and sit out some poses in the regular class because they are either contraindicated or...ok honestly because I just can't do them!  It helps me to think of this time as an opportunity to explore new things so that I don't feel like I'm missing out on the high-intensity hikes, jumping with my horse, runs, etc..

I feel the same- I'm 18 weeks and the other day i couldn't get my work pants on cus my hips had gotten wider! i've always had narrow hips and an athletic build, so change is hard for me too. This is my first so i'm sure the first time is gonna be a learning experience, the second will probably be easier. But you're not alone!! Its scary.

  • If you know you are someone who is gaining weight at a good rate -- just don't look at the scale. I don't weigh myself at home and I don't look at the scale at Dr appointments either. Every time my weight has been fine, so as long as they are not worried I see no reason for me to get the number in my head -- hope that makes sense! It has helped me so maybe it would help you?  :)

  • It's so hard adjusting to our new bodies. I try not to let it get me down but it does a lot of the time and I feel guilty about it. I'm 24 weeks and I finally had to give up pilates because it was becoming too awkward and uncomfortable. I also gave up spinning because my knees were hitting my belly. I now do prenatal yoga and the elliptical. I still work hard on the elliptical and work out a good sweat. I'm trying to train my body and heart for labor because I hear that is quite the work out!
  • I'm right there with you! I would work out for at least 2 hours a day, as hard as I could possibly push myself to go the whole time. My whole outfit would be soaked in sweat after words! (super gross, I know, but satisfying.) Working out has been extremely challenging for me since getting pregnant. It's like my body immediately went from being able to run for hours on end to not being able to go for more than 10 minutes, and then I some how kept managing to injure myself (even though I've been more careful than ever) so my working out has come to an all new low. And I hate it!

The changes in my body are hard for me too. I hate getting dressed for work in the morning, and looking in the mirror makes me cringe. And even though I'm thrilled about the baby inside of me, the changes have been really hard to get used to. I can't wait to get back to normal!

  • I am right there with you. I have the mind frame where if I am not pushing myself as hard as I can then there is no point in doing it. I feel so disappointed just doing light exercise like walking and basic cardio. My sister just started Insanity and I am so jealous. She sends me photos of her tomato red face after every work out and after one week shes already lost 6lbs. She keeps telling me I can borrow her DVDs after the birth but blah. I hate feeling lazy. I have also always had a curvy body for a petite frame and now my hips are getting even larger and I had no clue it was possible for them to do that until now.

I know, exactly this. My husband just started a brand new gym that just opened in our area and every day I hear how awesome it is. I don't think he means to make me jealous, he is just excited but I cant help it. Also the same thing is happening to my hips, my large VS panties are feeling a bit tight...large - seriously now! I used to only wear small/medium. I don't feel like my butt has really grown which is nice but my hips have absolutely made me more wide (although i don't really notice just looking, I can tell when I put my clothes on) Clothes are another issue...

  • I still hit the gym pretty hard. I find that I feel better the toner that I am, not really by the weight that I am. So, I do a hour body pump class, which is a full body work out using weights. We do squats, longes, chest presses, biceps, triceps, abs, chest, etc.

    I feel great!

I also walk very briskly and up inclines for 30 mintues and the stair climber for 10 minutes.

You can still do what you did pre-pregnancy. You just need to listen to your body more and not over do it.
