Do you think dh's family will assume we are using that name in honor of his deceased grandfather Francis?  I never met him and haven't heard the best things about him, so this is not what we are going for.  DD is named after both of our grandmothers,  because I was SUPER close to mine.  I am probably way over thinking this but wanted opinions on if you think it sounds too close.

Francesca is a lovely name, and if you want to use it - go for it.

You shouldn't have to validate your choice to anyone. Its not like you're naming her after Hitler.

I think the names are different enough unless he had a nickname that you plan to use for her (like Fran).

If I was in your family, I would assume that you named her after the grandfather, since your DD is already named for relatives. 

But is the assumption that big a deal? You can explain to your family that you just liked the name if you think anyone will be offended. And since you personally don't have a terrible association, I think you're in the clear to use it.

This.  I would assume it was named after grandfather, but as long as that association isn't bad, I'd go for it.

 If LO is a girl, she will also be Francesca

I love Francesca - unless you announce that it's in honor of him I doubt people will assume that's why you chose the name.

This. I really wouldn't worry. People might assume, but if they ask, just say you really liked the name and the connection is nice too... it'll work out. If you and H love it, you should use it.
