Hi I am 7 weeks pregnant and I have a sore throat and a fever. I don't have my first doctors appointment until next week. I wanted to know if you guys knew what would be best to treat this . Thanks so much for your help!
I'm not sure if there are any medicines you can take, I would call your doctor and see what he says. In the meantime though, you can try tylenol to bring your fever down and caffiene free hot tea and honey. The tea and honey always helps sooth my throat when it is sore. Hope you feel better soon! I caught a bad cold with sore throat just when we found out we were expecting again and it seemed like it took forever to get over. Sleep also helps a lot too. Sorry for typos bumping from my phone.
I just had my first appointment on Monday and my doctor gave me a list of things you can take for this situation. First off they said not to take ANY cold medicine that includes ephedrine or pseudoephedrine. But you can take Benadryl if it's allergy related--suggested starting with 25mg and only increasing to 50 mg every 6 hours. Ocean Mist Nasal Spray, Cloricidin HBP, Robitussin or Robitussin DM for no more than 7 days total and any alcohol-free throat lozenges such as Chloraseptic can all be taken.
I agree with the other ladies that tea and rest are good options as well. I personally am trying to avoid any medications at all, but if the symptoms persist or are too severe to be soothed my more natural ways at least I have a list of things that are safe.
Hopefully this gives you some more specific suggestions!!!
