2nd Trimester

Anatomy Screening follow up

ITS A BOY!!!!!!!!!  WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I ALWAYS knew I would have a son :)

Everything is healthy with him, except the doc did say my placenta is too close to my cervix which means I might have to have a c-section, but she did say normally it fixes itself before then.   Does anyone else have experience with that??

  • Congrats on your boy!

I too had a low lying placenta at 18w1day.  I had to do a level 2 ultrasound yesterday at 20w5days and the tech said it has alread moved up 4cm....so I am not worried about this anymore!

  • I had the same experience at my 20 week U/S. My doctor just said not to worry about it that it usually corrects itself and I have an U/S at 28 weeks to check. I still have another 5 weeks to wait.. In the meantime i am trying not to stress about it and I am praying it moves upSmile

  • Congrats on your baby boy!!! Sooooo exciting!  We just had ours yesterday and it was such an amazing experience!
  • Congrats on your boy news!!! :)  My placenta was still low at 20 weeks but my MFM doctor told me not to worry about it that there was still plenty of time for it to move up and that he would never diagnose it as placenta previa that early.  There is nothing you can do about it so just relax and enjoy getting ready to meet you little boy! :)

Yes, it's called a placenta previa, and 90% of the time, they resolve on their own if they occur early.  If it persists into late pregnancy, a c/s is required.  I had one diagnosed at 12 weeks, and by 16 weeks, it had resolved.  They resolve because the uterus pulls the placenta up and out of the way of the cervix as the uterus itself expands.  They're extremely common in early/mid pregnancy because the uterus just isn't large enough yet to fit the placenta and baby with the placenta out of the way.
