Baby Bargains - does it live up to the hype?

I have seen Baby Bargains mentioned here and there on TB while lurking. I am starting to plan my nursery casually and figured researching will take awhile. Plus I don't want to buy yet since I am still early on. So two questions:

1. Is that the latest edition? Is a newer one coming out anytime very soon?

2. Is it really the best resource for baby stuff or should I get a subscription with Consumer Reports?

Worth it! It explained so many things that I had no idea what they were.... I always wondered about the cribs where a little piece of the side flipped down (now I know why and they are a hazard as a baby could push themselves up on it and out of the crib) I bought it before buying all of our infant stuff. When it came time to get a convertible carseat I just grabbed the current copy at Target and went over to the carseat aisle

I obviously do not belong on this board b/c I have had my baby but when I saw your post I just had to respond. YES it more than lives up to the hype. I have to friends currently pregnant and I gave my copy to one and the other one purchased the Kindle version. They both love it. I also love my yearly subscription to consumer reports but CR does ratings on everything so it does not specialize in baby products per say. So BB has a lot more info about swings, cribs, mattresses etc that can't be found in CR.

The one you linked to is the latest version. It came out Spring 2011 the next edition will be out in Spring 2014 I believe.

Yes it's worth the hype and worth the cost to buy it, especially for a first time parent who is overwhelmed with all of the options.

Also Baby Bargains is "real people" recommendations and reviews. Consumer reports isn't and I have heard (read in the baby bargains) that they can be biased.

That is awesome info, thanks. I was thinking about buying the kindle version but I will probably want to make notes.

Totally worth it. I bought the book when I was pg with my daughter a few years ago so I don't know if there is a newer edition. I def recommend reading it.

I agree with everyone else! I give it to every new mom at her baby shower. Also, the writers of Baby Bargains also wrote Baby 411, which was SUPER helpful during the baby's 1st year. It was like my bible of newborn baby stuff.
