What can he (DH) Do???

...to help his sperm count. He is on the low side of "normal". Last IUI, we did back to back's and each time DH had 7 million sperm post wash. That seems so low to me. Some of you girls DH's had over 100 million. Thats a huge difference. The doctors say there is not much he can do. Any tips???

Well, if you are not dealing with MFI it seems odd that his post wash would be 7mil, but not impossible.  You can put your DH on Fertility Blend for Men and Co-Q10 200 mg.  Co-Q10 has had recent studies showing improved motility.  If more sperm can swim well, they survive the wash.  Also eating fruit twice a day has shown to increase motility.  But you'd have to wait three months after starting these to see improvements so don't know if you want to break three cycles before next IUI.

If he doesn't have any lifestyle changes to make (i.e. smoking, alcohol, pot, etc), there's not much that can be done but to see a urologist to see if there are issues.

Try to remember though that IUI success rates are good above 5 million, best above 10 million. Anything over 10 million sort of plateaus, meaning that having 10 million and having 100 million doesn't make much difference for success rates.

Our prewash was 25million/mL 41% motility and we only had 1.5 million motile with our IUI. We tried all sorts of vitamins/supplements and DHs numbers have been extremely constant.

It sucks, but there wasn't any helping in our situation. I'm actually glad though because with our terrible morph on top of that, it made the decision to move onto IVF clear cut.

Hopefully something will help you, but 7 million isn't bad at all.

jackiejoey- a question: are you moving to IVF after IUI #2 (which hopefully won't be necessary) because of the 7M sperm problem? I'd be interested to know if that's coming from your RE or if you're assuming that's the best thing. Sperm counts can vary considerably from sample to sample, so 7M in one sample isn't great but also isn't a deal breaker, like others have said (a woman on the PAIF board just got PG with 1.2M).

My husband doesn't have any sperm issues but for IUI #1 his nerves and jetlag got the best of him and he only produced 9M sperm, 1M post wash. My RE went ahead with the IUI, though she prefers 5M-10M.

I'm thinking ahead about how many IUI's we will do, so I'm interested to hear more about your decision to move on to IVF if IUI #2 doesn't work.

DH and I are Americans living an adventure in Kenya since 2011
    DX: PCOS (annovulatory)
    Feb 2012: IUI #1 w/ only 1M sperm and a single follie = BFP!
Nov 2012: Little buddy born in Kenya
Nov 2013: Trying for a second, still w PCOS
Dec 2013: IUI cycle canceled for non-response
    Jan 2014: Break cycle BFP!

Hello:) This is our 3rd IUI. Our first IUI we used no meds, just Ovidrel, then our second IUI we used clomid 50mg, as of right now I just started Clomid 100mg for IUI #3.My DH and I decided that if this dosent work, we want to look at the next step and my RE suggest IVF. I am just really worried about the IVF process I never thought I would have to get to that point. My RE actually thinks my DH's sperm is good, on the low side of normal. He wants to do IVF I believe cause he feels we will have success. But I hope third time is a charm so I dont have to ake that next step but we wont do anymore IUI's after this.
