Cloth Diapering

stuffing for night diapers

I already use a BG 4.0 with 2 microfiber inserts for night, but my son is starting to leak after 7-8 hrs. They leak because he is a pretty heavy wetter. My DH would prefer that I use something around the house to stuff with (I have extra prefolds, a few extra microfiber inserts, etc) before buying hemp inserts. What would you suggest to work without his night diaper getting too bulky?

Re: stuffing for night diapers

  • I would definitely do a microfiber and hemp combo =)

Go ahead and try prefolds and whatever else first..I mean, it can't hurt. But I think if the BG was working up until now, adding a similar size insert but with more absorbency (like hemp or bamboo) is definitely something that would work for you.

  • I second the hemp.  I understand not wanting to buy more CD stuff than you need, but these will be worth the investment!  They're trim and super absorbent.  If your LO is STTN and you wash every other day, you can get away with just three hemp inserts.

  • You only need 2-3 hemp inserts... less than ten bucks.

The problem with adding more MF or a prefold is if you go too big, it gaps and leaks.

  • Sorry but I have to agree with all the others, I'd just get the hemp inserts.  My favorite ones are a 3 pack of joey bunz in size M, and I think they were around $15.  3 is plenty, I wash every other day so I always have an extra ready to go.   I do the minky insert in my FB elite + a hemp and have never had a leak and they aren't *too* bulky because the hemp is so thin.  GL!

This. We use one hemp and one microfiber every night. Our biggest problem is compression leaks from DD being a tummy/side sleeper and tucking her legs in.
