Hi all, I'm new here. Well, new to the multiples board, I've been a knottie/nestie/bumpie for what seems like forever.
I'm only 8.5 weeks, so this is all still sinking in. Still in shock that a crappy IVF cycle with only 4 mature eggs retrieved turned into a multiple pregnancy..
Anyway, other than this fantastic group here, what larger twins/multiples message boards do you all recommend? I'd love to find one big enough that there is a break down also by area. I'm having a hell of a time finding an OB practice - all the hospitals with good NICUS have appallingly c-section rates and I'm not sure how to find the OBs who have a pro natural birth approach (as much as one can with twins). I'm supposed to get released by my RE this Friday, but have no idea where I'm going from there.
TIA!
Re: Message boards?
Thanks! I asked my RE too, but I don't put too much faith in his suggestions because the first group he recommended for my DS I hated so much that I switched at 30 weeks to midwives LOL!
I'll check for a local Moms of multiples group. Thanks!
I also suggest doing a google search for a local MoMs group.
The split for a vaginal delivery vs. c-section for multiples is about 50/50 - not sure what stats you saw at the hospitals.
If you are interested in a vaginal delivery, I suggest finding an OB who is comfortable doing a breech extraction.
Do you have any inkling if you're having fraternal or ID twins? At 8.5 weeks it's early to tell, but didn't know if you transferred two eggs, one, etc.
Congratulations on your pregnancy!
Hi there! So glad to see you over here. My twins (and this singleton) are both from a "crappy IVF cycles with 4 mature eggs retrieved. I guess it is true what they say about quantity over quality.
Are you still in Nanuet? If so, what are your thoughts about going to an OB in NYC? I live in Jersey but my boys were born NY and I couldn't have been more happy with the care I received.
4 Fresh IVF cycles + 1 FET where embies didn't survive the thaw = 2 perfect little men!
sFET 11/9/11 - Beta 11/18 BFP!
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
Amanda, they are definitely fraternal. We transferred two great looking 8 celled embryos and one wonky 15 cell. I'm guessing the two 8 celled ones took. But anyway, there are two separate sacs.
What scared me about White plains hospital where my RE recommended is that the c section rate for EVERYONE is 40% that's obscenely high in my opinion.
Geuxtiger - thank you! That's an old picture (I have to change my siggy!) I'm actually a children's portrait photographer, so he's like the most photographed kid ever LOL.
Orangesmoke - where in NJ are you? We JUST moved to Nyack, which is even closer to the city, but I don't think I'm up to the hassle of commuting for my appointments, particularly since there will be so many more this time around.. I guess I'm getting lazy in my old age
I'm in central jersey - My commute into the city is about an hour or so, I'm here for work most days, so doctor appointments isnt' that big of a deal for me.
I was so spoiled by my OB experience last go around that when I met with "local" doctors, both dh and I felt really uncomfortable...although technically there is nothing high risk about this baby.... so we are back in the city at a MFM practice. One thing to keep in mind is that if you see an OB and a MFM, you'll have even more appointments, while my MFM in the city will deliver, so no need for a regular OB.
Def PM or page me if you have any questions!

Frats - cool. I only asked because I know some OBs/MFMs aren't comfortable doing vaginal delivery with IDs b/c there is on placenta (my girls are ID).
Honestly, a hospital's stats wouldn't bother me as much as what my OB's take was on it. Like I said, if they're comfortable to do a breech extraction, I would stick with them. If you try for a vaginal delivery with both babies vertex and Baby A comes out, your worst case scenario is that Baby B flips b/c of all the awesome space they have now! At that point, you'd need a doctor who's comfortable with a breech extraction, otherwise you'll be looking at the dreaded "double whammy" - vaginal delivery then a c/s. That was my biggest fear when I was considering a vaginal delivery. I ended up going with a c/s because my MFM and OB weren't comfortable trying for a vaginal delivery with IDs.
Congrat's and welcome!
I am expecting twins too .. boy and a girl.
If you find more boards and groups let me know too! I would love to join some more. This one has been great so far. I am new too.
