Hello, I'm new here. I decided I needed to discuss this issue with other pregnant women who can make me feel better. I am currently 7.5 weeks pregnant with my first child. I have no history of miscarriage. My original level of progesterone was a little lower than the dr likes at 10.6. After a week or so, my husband insisted that I be tested again, and my level had dropped to 9.7. We think it was due to the enormous amount of stress I was under at the time. Anyway, the dr immediately put me on 400 mg of prometrium, taken orally at bedtime. My husband has been freaking out ever since, convinced that our baby is going to have some horrible deformity because that's what he read on the internet.
I would like to know how much prometrium others of you are taking, because it seems that most women are on 200 mg tops, and here I am at 400 mg....I would also LOVE to hear any and all stories of successful pregnancies and normal, healthy babies being born after taking prometrium. Thanks in advance for your help.
Re: Question for anyone taking Prometrium/anyone who has taken it in the past
I think your DH should step away from Dr. Google.
I have had a previous m/c and had low progesterone, so I took P.rometrium from weeks 4-12 with my last pregnancy and DD is a totally healthy 20-month-old. I am doing the same with this pregnancy and have no concerns. Without it, it's very possible that I wouldn't have been able to sustain a pregnancy.

i'm on progesterone 2x day, vaginally (progesterone for me, not prometrium). your body produces it as is, it's just not producing enough so the prometrium is to supplement. tell him he needs to back up off of dr. google, he doesn't always know what he's talking about.
i hope the prometrium does it's job for you!
Thank you to all that have responded. I completely agree that my DH needs to get off Google and on the phone with my doctor. He actually talked to her once, but he still doesn't believe her. Basically, he read that if my levels get too high (you're only supposed to be at 47 ng/mL max in the 1st trimester) that it can cause defects. My dr says that there is no such thing as "too high" and that there is nothing to worry about. So now my level is at 38. I was thrilled to find out that I was well within the "normal" range. But my DH says that if I'm already at 38, and I have ~7 more weeks to go, my level will be well above 47 by then.
I completely trust my dr, and think it's ridiculous that my husband doesn't. It's also really frustrating that he is making me feel like I am damaging our unborn child. Thank you all again for your posts, they are helping me feel better.
