Babies: 6 - 9 Months

No babbling?

R. Is 8 months old and does no real babbling of single or double consonants.  He also doesn't repeat back to us whether we say something over and over if if we say something at hm.  He also had difficulty with the hearing test, he has always taken awhile to respond to it.

Now he can obviously hear us, and he is also very sociable so I'm not overly worried about autism, but do you think I should take him in for an extra dr apt?  I tried to schedule one today, but the nurse talked me out of it since I have a well baby visit in April.

Re: No babbling?

  • Mine doesn't babble either. he just screams, giggles, and makes a lot of vowel sounds. He used to say mama/ma around 6.5 months but hasn't since. The only thing I've noticed starting to change is his vowel sounds are starting to get pitchy like he is trying to talk like uhhhUHHHH sounding. He also since forever has been making this rolling R sound which is really weird.

But I never even expected him to repeat back to me, is that something they are supposed to do?

I try not to worry since the span is until 12 months. He has wonderful motor skills, crawls really fast, stands up, walks along the couch, feeds himself. He listens to me when I say come here, no, call his name etc. I would try not to worry too much we both have some time :) but i know its hard i feel like every baby is saying dada except him

  • I wouldn't worry yet.  Babies develop skills all of a sudden.  DD just started using consonants in the past week.  We get dada and gaga and some other random consonants and she'll be 9 months next week.
