1st Trimester

cramping at 12 weeks

I know everything is probably ok, we just heard the heartbeat last week, but I am a worry wart. I know it's normal to have cramping with the stretching of the uterus but I can't help but worry! I keep getting these quick sharp stabbing cramps that only last maybe 10 seconds or so. They are mainly on my left side, but sometimes on my right. I'm trying not to wory, but I'd like to hear from others around 12 weeks if they are having any cramps as well.

Re: cramping at 12 weeks

  • I had these pains at 8 weeks. My doctor told me that it was a little early, but that it sounded like round ligament pain. She said with second pregnancies, RLP is very common, even in the 1st tri. Any time there is cramping/sharp pain associated with blood, call the doctor. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it is unbearable. GL!

  • I'm only ten weeks and I started back cramping today. I had gone a week with no symptoms and everything decided to hit me today. Also, I did read online that in the next couple of weeks I should expect some pain/cramping from stretching, etc. That's probably why you're feeling it as well!

Really? Thanks for telling me that. I would think that you wouldn't get as much RLP with the second one since you uterus has already stretched out with the first one.  That makes me feel better :)

  • Funny you should post this but yesterday I felt like my insides were falling out. I was so achy and don't remember this happening so early. I feel totally better today.

My doctor told me that the cause of RLP so early in 2nd pregnancies is due to the uterus stretching so much faster because it already "knows what to do." I actually didn't have any RLP with my first pregnancy.
