Cloth Diapering

Talk to me about day care

DS is starting day care in a couple of weeks.  He's been home until now.  They seem pretty flexible. They have only had a couple of other cd kids, but none currently.  I am planning on using hook and loop pockets and disposable wipes. I've got about 3 days worth of these and plenty of others for use at home.

Does your day care store used diapers in a wet bag or trash can?  Which size?  They said it was my choice.

Anything else that I need to think about?  Thanks!

  • I plan to use a medium wet bag and will bring it home each day to wash/add to my laundry bag.  I am thinking we will use disposible wipes as well unless she is willing to wet the cloth wipes.  I am using pockets so I will need to unstuff them at night.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • We're the only CD family at our center. We bring in a giant wet/dry bag (you could use a medium probably; I have twins and there is enough room in there for 2 days, though I bring it home each night) for the dirties (I put the cleans in their diaper cubbies each morning).  We use aplix for DC and give them a giant bag of disposable wipes.

I send 5/baby/day, but they usually use 3-4.

  • We send a medium wet bag, and he usually comes home with 4 dirties per day (we send 6). I like the ones with a snap handle (Planetwise wet/dry bags have them, as well as Leslie's Boutique) because our DC has a wall of hooks for the wet bags. Depending how your daycare changing area is set up, that might be convenient for them.

  • I have 2 planetwise wet/dry bags and I put the clean dipes in the dry compartment and then they put the dirty ones in the wet side. I take it home everynight and either restock or wash it and send the alternate one restocked the next day.

We send a wet bag and clean diapers and take home the wet bag and dirty diapers every day.  We also have a stash of sposies there as backup.  We have a few wetbags we rotate through, both medium and large size.

DC puts the dirties in the wetbag, which hangs on a hook in their bathroom/diaper changing area. They doesn't unstuff the pockets, but they will dump his bm when it's ploppable.  If he's had a poopslposion or it isn't ploppable, they'll put the soiled diaper in a plastic bag and put that package in the wetbag.

  • Thanks ladies. I think that I may need to get some more wet bags, especially when I've got two in diapers.

  • I use a large wet bag for about 8 hours at daycare. They just hang it on a hook and leave it for me to pick up at the end of the day. I could probably get away with a medium, though, but they throw any messed up clothes or burp rags in there, too, so I like the large.

  • We send a large planet wise wet/dry bag and 6 pockets per day (she usually only needs 4).  We also use disposable wipes.  However we have to put our wet bag in a rubber maid container due to state regulations (has to be a hard container with a lid).  DC just puts her wetbag in the Rubbermaid container and we take it out every night at pick up.

Where in TN are u? I haven't approached any of our daycare options about CD, but I'm waiting for them to try and pull the "we can't in this state" thing. Even though I know 2 people in other areas of Tn who have day area that will do it. Sorry, not trying to hijack your thread

  • We send a medium wetbag and about 6 CDs every day, along with 8 - 10 pre-moistened cloth wipes in a flat plastic container. All used CDs go into the wetbag (usually 3 - 4 each day), and I then unstuff and spray the poopy ones at home (not strictly necessary since we haven't started solids yet, but I just prefer it) before dumping in the pail. I only have one wetbag atm (awaiting some fluffy mail...), so I just rinse that one out each night and hang it up to dry so it's ready to go in the diaper bag the next morning. So you definitely can get away with one wetbag in a pinch!
