Excessive crying after middle of night feeding

DD used to go back to sleep so easy after any night feedings until recently.  She is down to waking an average of once a night (usually sometime between 2am-4am).  I go in and feed her and she typically starts to doze off.  I lay her back in her crib and she immediately starts wailing at the top of her lungs when previously she would just roll on her side or stomach and go back to bed.  Anyone else experience this change?  Last night took her almost an hour to go back to sleep (with checks ins, although the check ins seem to just get her even more wound up) when she woke at 2:30am.  I am initially thinking a possible separation anxiety, but I have no idea...Thoughts?  TIA!!

Re: Excessive crying after middle of night feeding

  • Are you making sure to burp her? Is she eating something at nighttime (solids) that may be making her uncomfortable? My son did this for a little and we realized that it must have been the rice cereal that we gave him. We stopped giving it to him and now we just give him a oatmeal around 530 and then he gets nursed right before bed and he sleeps great.

  • Does she take a full feeding at that time?  Does she stop crying when you pick her back up?  You said the check ins get her more wound up, but you didn't say whether that meant upset or excited.
