Water "leaking"? Prob STM ?

So at my last appointment my midwife went over signs of labor with me. She mentioned that water doesn't always break (which I knew) but that sometimes it could leak. She said that I should go in if I suspect I'm leaking. But then she also said it could be hard to tell since so much is going on down there. So now of course I'm obsessing about it! She did say if I thought I was leaking I should put a pad on and keep an eye on it. So I don't think I'm leaking amniotic fluid, just something :/ But I'm curious as to how much liquid/wetness would constitute a leak?

At the time of course it all made sense but with over-analysis now I have no idea. My next appt is Friday. TIA!

  • When i leaked with dd it felt like i was peeing myself over and over again.  After the 4th leak i called the dr.  and it was amnio fluid.  it was a little each time but it was weird.....wasnt mucusy or creamy.

  • This sounds gross but for me amniotic fluid smelled like sex not urine.

There is a lot of discharge going on down there near the end, but leaking felt more like a little bit of pee at a time.

If you get too worried you can just be checked, it's just a swab and takes no time at all.

  • Thanks ladies! I'm pretty sure things are okay but this will be very helpful down the road :)

  • My Dr. said if you leak it will probably be enough to soak a pad. And if you lay down for 5 or 10 minutes and get up you will leak some more. Once you start leaking you wont stop. I agree, I have the same freak out with all the discharge!

  • I get wet down there and worry the same thing, but if I was leaking I would thing it would get coming steady and I wouldn't be able to keep my underwear/pad/liner dry at all and would have to change it very frequently.  It's not uncommon to have a watery discharge which is most likely what mine is.  You could always go in and have them test for amnio fluid, just to be cautious.  I'm more of a cautious person myself.

  • I had no idea I was leaking until I went to an u/s at 41wks and had less than half the fluid I shouldve had. I nevr noticed any pooling or trickling or smell. I had an increase in watery discharge but I assumed it was just that. If you're at all unsure or worried, go in. Better safe than sorry. I had all sorts of major complications as a result and ended up with an urgent c/s and am higher risk this time because of those complications.
