Sort of NBR - gift for Physical Therapist

Hi ladies,

My little guy had a pretty serious case of torticollis and spent 5 months seeing a physical therapist.  He's almost "graduated" - he sees her next month for a 1 month checkup and if all goes well, he's done.

His PT has been wonderful to him and I'd like to get her something small as a thank you present.  I know she's very serious about yoga (has gone to Yoga conferences and the like) so I was thinking I could get her something related to that.  The only problem is that I've never done yoga once and I can't even begin to think of a good yoga related gift.  Mabe a t-shirt?  A nice water bottle?  Nothing seems like a great idea.  Thoughts?

Maybe I'm thinking too hard and I should just get her a nice gift certificate to a local restaurant?

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Re: Sort of NBR - gift for Physical Therapist

  • Does your PT work for a certain company or is it someone you have privately hired? The only reason I ask is because alot of companies, especially healthcare companies have policies that you cannot accept gifts from patients/clients. My DD goes to PT for her torticollis through our local children's hospital and I know that they have a very strict policy about accepting gifts (I worked for them during my time in nursing school). The hospital I now work for also has the same policy. They have even made it so that we can't accept pens or food from drug reps.

So, before you go out and spend money on anything, check their policy first so that you don't get disappointed if she has to decline your gift. If gifts of any monetary value are not allowed, I would suggest maybe writing a letter to her boss about how great she is.

  • As a wife of a PT and as the PP said, many practices do not allow their staff to accept any type of gift. At the same time, some clinic directors will look the other way (like in our case) but it really depends on location. Could you ask the front desk what the policy is? They may be able to tell you what the policy is and whether or not it is actually followed ;o)

With that said, if you want to go the yoga route, maybe a yoga block? I don't do yoga myself but that's what my dad's girlfriend asked for for Christmas. A gift card is also good (make sure it's a restaurant you enjoy going to as well in case they can't accept it) but I would probably say that my husband seems to enjoy showing off to me most are the letters of appreciation that his patients have written. Ones that are more than just the "Thank you" but have real thought and appreciation behind it. He generally isn't a saver but these he makes an exception for.
