My DD will be 6 months on Saturday and will still only take 30 minute long naps no matter where she is. She will occasionally sleep up to 1.5 hours. She will sleep 12 hours at night with at least one wake up to "replug" as we call it but will go right back to sleep. She does wake up about 1/2 hour after bedtime but goes to sleep after a little while. After a 1/2 nap she's ready to go but meltdown an hour later.
I have been consistent with the time I lay her down. And I do it drowsy but awake. She has no problems going to sleep. It's the staying asleep and going back to sleep that she has trouble with. I have also tried to catch her before she wakes up but her eyes pop on at exactly 30 mins and she smiles. I know this isn't long enough of a nap. I can see that clearly shortly after she wakes up.
Any suggestions on extending it? Or is it just something she will learn how to do on her own?
Re: 30 Minute Naps...still
My DD still has a lot of 45 min naps too. She will do 1.5hrs or even 2 sometimes but they are inconsistent. I don't try to extend her naps other than to leave her in the crib for a full hour if she wakes before then. Usually if she is going to sleep longer she just does (rather than wake and go back to sleep).
I think it is still common through 6 months so I'm not worried yet.

BFP!! 8/29/16 --> EDD: 5/11/17....it's a GIRL!!!
We have always had short naps (30-45), but they started to get better around month 7 when we were more strict with the scheduling and tried to avoid sleeping in the car/stroller.
LO is now 8 mo old and takes about 3 naps - an hour after waking up, then 2 hours after, then 3 hours after. One nap is usually 1.5 hrs and the others are still 30-45 min... that 1.5 hr break is awesome though!! Keep on trying and LO will get their soon.
