Cloth Diapering

Daycare Recs

I'm a FTM, and 6 days overdue.  Suprsingly, most of the Daycares I've interviewed have no problem with cloth diapering and they don't restrict you to AIOs or Pockets.

Since this is the case and my LO is going to start at 4 months do any of you have any recommendations for my DC stash?  I was thinking Flips (if they work for LO since there would be less to pack)?  Also, once I introduce solids (I plan on BFing) what do you do with the CDs that the daycare used through out the day?  Do you have to soak them before you wash them, scrape them?

TIA, and send me labor thoughts!!!!

Re: Daycare Recs

  • Pockets or AIOs are probably the most popular for daycare, because they go on and off just like disposables. The only thing I would worry about in using Flips at daycare would be, if there are multiple people changing the baby some might get confused about what part gets changed, they might put the cover in the wetbag and you'd run out of covers too early in the day, or something. Lots of people use BG pockets for daycare. We use Kissaluvs Marvels AIOs because DH doesn't like to match up inserts.

We have started solids and usually we just take the poopy diaper out of the bag, plop the poo in the toilet and put the dipe in the pail. We do have a sprayer for more messy ones. We don't need to soak or anything.

  • I use AIOs and Pockets. I don't think my DC would be happy with any kind of AI2 where I expected them to change the insert.
  • You'll have a better idea of what works for your LO once you get closer to going back to work.

Since you're not restricted to certain types, Flips would be fine, as long as you make sure you have enough covers for each diaper change.

I used prefolds and covers w/ DS and his DC didn't have a preference on types of CD's.  I made sure to always pack enough covers so that they could always just remove the whole diaper and put it in the bag, then put a whole new set on him.  You end up needing to have a larger stash of covers, this way, but it's still cheaper than having a stash of Pockets or AIO's just for DC.

  • We'll be sending our Kawaii aplix pockets to daycare. I figure easy is good.

  • i send pockets to daycare. they have always been REALLY nice about it and dumped the poop for me, even though i told them they don't have to! it goes in a closed rubbermaid container because that's the regulation in MA. i don't soak anything, i just wash every 2-3 days.

  • I also use pockets for DC - mostly BG OS or Thirsties.  The velcro seems to be the easiest although soon i'll be converting all my diaps to snaps.  When C started to have real poop I just put diaper liners in all the diapers that way it was easier for them to just peel it off into the toilet.
