High-Risk Pregnancy

1.5 cervix at 13 weeks

I am 13 weeks pregnant and my cervix measured 1.5 yesterday.

My doctor is putting in a  cervical cerclage next Friday.

I am so nervous! Anyone similar or have advice?

Re: 1.5 cervix at 13 weeks

  • In 2010 I was in the hospital for over three months pregnant with my Avalina trying to get her as close to term as possible because of a "barely there" cervix. It was horrid...and very scary. But even with the infections it caused and the other issues she was born at 32 weeks and 3 lbs. Now she is a healthy, happy, divalicious toddler that refused to get left behind. Please just remember to trust your doctors but speak up whenever you feel ANYTHING weird, painful, or off.  I almost lost my girl because what I thought were side cramps turned out to be early labor. Better safe than sorry. oh..and BED REST!  I just found out we are pg again (even though it was supposed to be impossible) and only 5 weeks along. This too will be a high risk gestation. BUUUUT us mommies are strong and so are our offspring. You can do it!
  • Glad they caught it in time. You should get a spinal and have a little bleeding, but overall not a bad procedure. Getting it out can be painful for some, but don't worry about that. Just focus on getting LO to term. GL!

  • I had this same issue 5 wks. ago, my Dr. measured my cervix every week because of a previous loss @ 20 wks. At 19 weeks my cervix measured 1.9 and I was sent to a specialist to have a cerclage put in. I spent the night before suregery in the hospital to make sure I had no contractions or infections. I went down to suregery the next morning I will admit it was awkward being awake during the whole process. They gave me a spinal because those dont really affect baby. You will be fine keep your head up. My cervix actually lengthened to 3.4 after the procedure. I'm 24 wks. today and just had my cervix checked again and so far so good, no shortening at all. Good luck!!
  • Had a cerclage at 19 weeks when pregnant with my now 15 mo. old daughter. It was not a fun procedure & I felt discomfort for a good 24 hours after. Let's face it, there's only one way in there & they aren't very gentle in order to achieve the stitch they desire! I attribute my cerclage, bedrest & 17p injections with carrying my daughter to full term!

I am 13 weeks pregnant today & will have a preventive cerclage next week. My hope is that placing it prior to shrinkage will help avoid bed rest!

One plus with bi-weekly cervical length measurements was that I got to see my LO on ultrasound that often!! My friends with "normal" pregnancies only got to see an ultrasound once, twice (if they were lucky) during their entire pregnancy.

Remember to breath, rest lots & trust your doctors!

  • I am so glad they caught it early. You will be fine! I just had a cerclage placed yesterday at 22w after some slight shortening (my cervix was 3.0cm yesterday) and funneling. I was nervous about the spinal and procedure, but it was really no big deal. The only negatives were the spinal made me super nauseous and caused me to puke all over myself on the operating table and I had some intense cramping afterwards but pain meds helped a lot. Today, I have felt great, just slightly achy. Good luck!
