My SIL is getting married in May and the bridesmaids are throwing her a shower next weekend.  Since I am helping with it all I opted to send out the invites (4 weeks ago) and put my info to RSVP.  The last day to RSVP is tomorrow.  I sent out 40 invites and have only heard back from 8 people. 

My question is for the people I haven't heard from, Do I assume they are coming and forgot to RSVP, not coming at all and don't want to tell me or do I contact them and sort of put them on the spot to see if they are coming?  I have never thrown a shower before so I don't know the true etiquette form of what to do and I kind of need to know for catering, tables/chairs, favors, etc.

 P.S. Did I mention that I think it is RUDE that people don't rsvp.  I understand that people forget and I am sure there will be a few stragglers to RSVP in the next week but I have this huge feeling that there will be quite a few that show up and have not rsvp'ed.  So I guess I go under the assumption that everyone is coming?!? 

Has anyone been in my shoes and if so what did you do?  TIA!

    I would personally call them and ask.  If the RSVP is due by tomorrow I would wait until Monday (maybe some threw it in the mail last minute) to give them a call and ask them.

    You could try calling some of the people.  Play it off sweetly "oh I just wanted to be sure you got your invitation, I was worried since I had not yet received your RSVP."  It is very frustrating when people don't bother to RSVP.

    Thanks ladies!  Didn't want to be rude putting them on the spot but at this point (with my any-moment-pregnancy-hormones-rages) I don't care if I am rude.  They are rude for not rsvping.....grrr!

    This exactly.  I had to do this with my sisters baby shower.

    This. And it drives me insane and makes me so mad when people do not RSVP!!!

    It has been my experience that 90% of people do not RSVP. It drives me insane too, but I always just plan on the surely confirmed (like immediate family) and those that HAVE RSVPd and then half of the invited. If you run out of food/cake/drinks...then you can always be like.."well, I only had 8 RSVPs....wenches".

    People who don't RSVP is a HUGE pet peeve of mine.  I gave contact info to my mom so she could call or email people that didn't RSVP to my baby shower for DS, and my cousin gave guest info to me so I could call people who didn't RSVP for hers.  Don't people understand there is a potential for people to waste huge amounts of hard earned money on food, catering, drinks, cake size, favors, etc... that might go to waste if you thought you were having like 60 people and end up with 20 or 30?  I say it's a-okay to cold call people and put them on the spot.
