C&P for discussion

https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/63846115.aspx

I am floored that people would go to the director versus just either a. doing nothing or b. maybe mentioning something to the dad if they really felt like they needed to do so.

  • My response to that poster and the other pearl clutching heli-moms in the post: Can you hear my eyes rolling out of my head. F.F.S. Get a life and stop helicopter/martyr parenting someone else's child.

    Again.

  • If something where to happen to a parent, child, or employee in the parking lot because of this man it could turn into a legal issue for the DC. I can see why they would go to the director.

  • I don't know what it's like in other peoples daycare/preschool parking lots but at the one my kids went to we were never going fast enough for it to matter who was sitting where. I honestly think if I wrote here some of the crap I have let my kids do someone would try to report me to CPS...and I even consider myself to be kind of overprotective. I just want to shake people, slap them across the face and say "get a grip on yourself!!!"

I kind of feel bad for our kids that we are so spazzy as parents these days.

  • These are the parents that follow their kids to college to talk to their prof's about changing grades. Yes. That happens, as reported by my BIL and SIL who are professors. Can you imagine back in the day your parents pleading your case at college? I would have been mortified and probably dropped the class.

Ditto, I can't image the pearl strands that would be broken if people knew what my kids do on a daily basis.

  • The teacher thing starts early. Elementary school has been very interesting. LOL

I am trying really hard to not be overly uptight so I have to push myself to let my kids do things that seem so scary for me as a mom but that they really need to be able to experience. They LOVE to ride bikes but we live in a relatively busy city and I get so worried about them being on the road. It takes me totally out of my comfort zone but I take them on bike rides often because they love it. I am just careful to make sure they are following the rules of the road and that we are as safe as possible.

  • Ok...maybe not the smartest thing to do, but do they really think the dad doesn't have his hands on the wheel or his foot on the pedals?!

  • This board: 2-3 years ago would have got the same reaction!!  Call CPS asap.

FWIW, I am pretty sure MH has allowed the kids to ride in the front of the cab (truck) with him (short distances)....not in the daycare parking lot tho.

I consider myself to be the polar opposite of a spastic, helicopter parent and I could also write a book of the "bad" things I do.

However, I am beyond surprised people are acting like it's NBD that a 4 year old was behind the wheel of a car in a daycare parking lot. My 2 year old has sat on my DHs lap in the car before so it's not that. It's the location. In a daycare lot with 1-4 year olds everywhere where you have to be that much more cautious and attentive while driving. How the hell can you be cautious/attentive with a 4 year old on your lap whose head would obstruct your view?

I don't think it was out of line to inform the director at all. It's a huge liability and a huge risk to have someone driving like that.

  • Not letting your child sit on your lap and "drive" in a daycare parking lot at drop off time where other children are walking is not being a spazzy, overprotective, helicopter parent. It's being a parent with some common sense. lol It's just an unnecessary distraction.

Yeah, that's totally the same thing as being an attentive and responsible driver around other people's children.

  • You know what's funny? If someone had backed into the dad's car causing the child to lose a tooth from the steering wheel, no one would be on the dad's side.
