Y'all convinced me to watch the youtube videos for rear-facing vs. forward-facing and yikes stripes I'm a believer now. Two words: internal decapitation.
So my issue is that I drive a Camry and we aren't going to be getting a minivan for at least a year, so right now I need 2 convertible carseats that go rear-facing without completely cramping the driver or passenger. DH and I are both tall. And if I could really have my way, I would choose something that has a high weight limit (70-100lbs?) and isn't going to break the bank. Any ideas?
Re: If you drive a sedan + rear-facing convertible carseats...
The Combi Coccoro is a GREAT choice for rear facing in sedans. We got one for Grayson just so we could get behind one of the middle row seats in our minivan with him rear facing - in all other seats we couldn't... but the coccoro was great.
and yeah- those 2 very words are the ones that got me... I don't understand how any parent can read "internal decapitation" and NOT keep their child rear facing until 2yo.

Well, I thought that until my kid would scream until puking after 20 minutes in the car and the pedi even OKed forward facing. I felt terrible but I was seriously concerned he would aspirate on his own vomit. That being said, he didn't hit 20lbs until 22 months so we were pretty darn close to 2.

A moms gotta do what a moms gotta do! LOL I would have done the same thing--I can't handle crying and puking at the same time!
We have two Britax Marathons rear facing in our Honda Accord which I think is similar size to the Camry. I am short though and my husband is average height but we still have a little room to go back farther if we were taller. With that said, I would definitely see if a store will let you try one in your car to see how it fits with you and your husband sitting where you need to sit as well just to make sure.
The First Years TrueFits worked really well for us for extended RFing. We're in a Kia Rondo now but we used to have them RFing in DH's sedan (a Chrysler 300M) and that worked, too. My friends have their 3 y/o and 1 y/o RFing in the same seats in a smaller sedan (I think it's a Sonata?). The thing to remember is that for older babies/toddlers they don't have to be at the 45-degree angle needed for infants, so that helps the seats fit better in the RFing position.
