Is anyone looking into supplemental insurance to cover time out of work? Since I'm having twins and I dont know (obviously) how long I will be able to work for, or if I will have any complications that take me out of work. My OB hasn't mentioned anything about working or not working until my C-section date at around 37-38 weeks. We don't have maternity leave at my work, we only have Short Term Disability and FMLA.

yep. I am an insurance agent & no one will cover a pre-existing condition.
I work with STD/LTD insurance.
Your STD should cover you if you are taken out of work by your doctor. Normally you would have a small elimination period (7-14 days - most policies some are a little longer or less), then your STD benefits would kick in. Being placed out of work while pregnant (as long as your doctor tells you to stop) is considered a disability. Then, once you deliver you would get (depending on the policy, as some policies don't have 8 weeks for c-section) 6-8 weeks from the date you deliver.
I was taken out around 30.5 weeks, delivered at 36.3 and went back to work after 6 weeks (vaginal birth). I did use all of my FMLA time (it started from the day I was taken out of work), however my employer won't terminate as long as you are on disability (unless of course you hit the 1 year mark of being out).
Have you talked to your employer in regards to how it would work if god forbid you were taken out prior to 34/35 weeks?
