Lower Back Pain

I have been having pain in my lower back, it feels like around my tailbone, that comes on when I turn or try bending over. In the mornings I have to roll myself out of bed because it feels like my back catches if I move too quickly. I thought it was just really tight muscles, but I have looked none and found information on posterior pelvic pain and am wondering if this is it? has anyone experienced anything like this and if so, any ways to relieve the pain?

Re: Lower Back Pain

  • I went to my OB today for my check up. I have severe lower back pain that wakes me up at night. Plus cramps. Doc said this is very normal and that the ligaments are stretching. I didn't think that happened at only 7 or 8 weeks, but she says it's quite possible. She asked if I had stabbing pains. I don't. But it sounded like stabbing pains are a more significant problem. But if the pain was throbbing, painful like I had lifted weights or slept wrong, that's normal. I have a painkiller for my new pregnancy migraines, so I'm sure my painkiller will take care of my back as well.. But if it's just the back, she told me try a warm towel. Heat will take care of it, she said, and it won't last longer than a day or two.

  • You're right about the heat compresses! I have used heat and ice compresses for back pain relief for several years now. If you only want to do heat, you should wet a towel and warm it in the microwave. Be careful to not leave it on your skin for too long- 2-3 minutes on and 1 minute off for about 20 minutes is a good rule of thumb. In my experience, heat and ice work really well together! You can use a bag of frozen peas and wrap the bag in a towel. Follow the same time for the heat compress and alternate between heat and ice.

     Hope this helps!
