Ariana's Birth Story (Finally!) Loooong

I'll make this as short as possible.

I had been having contractions off and on for a while and had been at almost 4 cm and 80% effaced for a week.

Sat night around 12:30- I woke up with contractions that were pretty painful.  They were coming every 4-5 minutes.  (The birthing center says for first time moms to come in when they're 3 min. apart.)   I tried to sleep but eventually got in the tub.  Around 4 am I woke up DH and had him call the on-call midwife because I thought that this could be it.   They were still varying in time but weren't under 4 minutes.  After telling the midwife this and talking to her for a bit, she said to call her back if/when they get closer or more painful - that I shouldn't be able to talk through them.  Eventually I got out of the tub and back into bed and fell asleep.

Sunday- DH had to work but my sis was with me.  I had rather painful contractions all day but they were anywhere from 4 - 20 minutes apart and I was able to function. We watched movies all day and my sister held my hand and put counter pressure on my back through the contractions.  They were painful at this point.  They continued all day and night but they still weren't regular.

Monday 2/6- Around 5 am, I woke DH up and had him call the midwife again.  Again, she said that I wasn't in enough pain and they weren't close enough together.  I should take Tylenol PM or a glass of wine and try to sleep.  I called in to work, DH went to work and I slept a little.  Around 10 am, I woke up and woke up my sister.  My contractions were very painful but still irregular (every 4-20 minutes.)  My sis called the MW and she said the same thing again.  At this point, I figured that if I'm still possibly a day or so away from having her, that I couldn't do it.  I was ready to go to the hospital instead of the birthing center because the pain was such that I could do it for a few hours but I figured I still had a day or so to go and I couldn't do it for that long.  (1:30 ish) We called DH at work and had him come home to take me to a hospital.  He called the birthing center and forcefully told them the situation at which point they said to come in (but let him know that they might be sending us home because I was still talking through them.)

2:30- We got to the center and the MW checked me.  Imagine my surprise when she said, "Wow, you're at an 8.  You're having a baby right now."  I broke down at that point because I was so relieved.  I cried on her for a bit then got to business.  I used the yoga ball until the tub was ready then got in there.  It helped so much!  Shortly after, she said that I could try pushing to break my water.  It broke on the first push and the pressure got intense after that.  I started pushing but was told to slow down a bit because the baby was face up.  She rotated herself though so that wasn't an issue.  I pushed a little more but her heart rate when down so I had to get onto the bed.  From there, I pushed a little more and she was out!  After pushing for only 40 minutes, Ariana was born with her hand up by her face.  (After only about 2.5 hrs at the center.)

I had problems delivering my placenta and lost a lot of blood.  This may have been more painful than the birth but it was ok bc A was on my chest.  I never felt panicked even though I could feel the blood bc the mw was so in control.

My experience was amazing.   It was frustrating at the time but looking back, it made the actual birth go so fast.  I also think that laboring at home all that time made it easier.  I can't imagine having any future children anywhere other than the AABC. The after care has been great, too.  I'd share but this post is long enough already!
