Re: Giving yourself PIO shot

  • It really helped me to sit on the bathroom counter so I could see in the mirror.  It takes all the pressure off the side of the injection, letting your muscles completely relax.  I was able to both sides this way very easily and without any pain.  Truly, you can do this!! I promise you it's not nearly as bad as you think it'll be.

Also, not everyone agrees that you should ice with PIO, but my RE said it was just fine and it really did help with the discomfort.  Good luck!

I just finished giving myself a PIO shot a few minutes ago because DH is out of town. I stood in front of the mirror in my bedroom, turned to the side, and put weight on the opposite leg of the injection.

YOU CAN DO IT! GOOD LUCK :)

Let us know how it goes!

Congrats to you on doing yours and thanks for the pep talk! I did mine not that long ago and it was SO easy! A few times during my lupron, I didn't poke hard enough and it didn't go in my first time. That's what i was really  nervous about but this needle went right in. Thank goodness! Now I know I can do it if/when I need to, although I do prefer my DH doing it.

  • Just curious for those who did it themselves, did you insert the needle slowly or did you just plunge it in as quickly as possible? Do you have to pull out the plunger to make sure you don't draw in blood or just stab it in the muscle and inject?

As a nurse, I know to pull on the plunger and check for blood, although with my trigger shot, I plunged it in and pushed lol.   It's alot different when you are giving yourself a needle.  The chances of actually getting blood in the plunger after injecting into the muscle as so minimal I decided to take the chance.
