Cloth Diapering

never stripped diapers, rash?

DD has a diaper rash, it is from being in a poopy diaper too long so it is just a regular rash.

I have her in disposables right now with cream on and it is almost cleared up.

I use flips and some BG for night time.  Do I need to strip her diapers?  I have never done anything but washes in Tiny Bubbles.  How do I strip them?  And what about disinfecting?

Thanks ladies.

Re: never stripped diapers, rash?

  • I have never stripped a diaper if I know what caused the rash (usually in my case it's waking up with a messy diaper).

I thought people only stripped if they thought it was a detergent/buildup issue/yeast issue, none of which you have.

  • that is what i thought too.  You only need to sanitize after a yeast infection

  • There's no need to strip or disinfect unless you have a problem - like pp said, detergent build up, mineral build up, unsafe diaper cream, yeast.

If you want to, you can do a wash with blue dawn, but there's really no need if your diapers are performing well. Similarly, you can add 1/4 cup bleach to the bleach dispenser if you want to disinfect, but there's really no need. You know what the rash is from.

  • Was your LO's bottom red right after you changed a poopy diaper? If it was it could just be the poop. DD's bottom is always a little red after a poop regardless of how quickly we change her.
