Cloth Diapering

Do you put your PUL covers in the dryer?

I keep reading of people having problems with their PUL because of the dryer, but I've been following the instructions on my diapers and drying on low, just long enough to get them dry, then I take them out and let the inserts dry a little longer on medium.  Will this be too harsh on the covers longterm?  I'm working on buiding my stash right now so maybe when I get a few more line drying will be more feasible.

FWIW I mostly have FB elite and then a mix of blueberry/softbums/best bottoms/BG/HappyHeiny, so mostly pockets or AI2.

  • I dried my covers on medium for the longest time.  They do seem a bit more worn than other diapers that were not dried.  I would say you're probably fine drying on low for a short while but I wouldn't want to do it all the time.

  • Never. It's really not that hard to line dry them. I use the Ikea pressa octopus hanging thing and everything is dry in a couple of hours.

  • i only put them in the dryer if they are leaking. it seems to help "seal" the pul. otherwise i hang dry.
  • I hang dry unless we have a shortage of shells and I need one ASAP.

  • i dried mine on HIGH with all the inserts for a year. oops. they're fine, but i'm sure they are more worn than they would be if i hadn't. now i put all the inserts in the dryer and throw in the covers for like 10 minutes at the end!

  • I wash my covers with the baby's clothes so when I do put them in the dryer, it's on low.

  • I dry them almost all the time. Always on low, for only 20-30 minutes.

  • We also hang dry ours. Honestly, there is no way I would be able to remember to pull them out of the dryer after ten or fifteen minutes. I also use the ikea octopus, and it is just too easy to hang dry.

  • The odd time one will sneak in the dryer with the inserts, but otherwise no. I have a drying rack in the basement, or a clothes line in the backyard when it's warm.

  • I put them in the dryer on ultra low until the prefolds are dry.  100 minutes or so..... alas, I'll be buying a completely second stash for the next baby.
