3rd Trimester

Tested negative for GD, now sugar in urine

I had my 36 week appointment this morning and the glucose in my urine was high.  This same thing happened at my 34 week appointment.  My doctor said not to worry about it, it's unlikely to get gestational diabetes this late in the pregnancy and I'm so far along it doesn't matter.  I've never had glucose detected in my urine before so I am worried I may have developed GD.  I didn't have it with my last pregnancy and my baby was already 9 pounds, 4 ounces and 22 inches long.

Anyone else have this happen?  I obviously am going to watch my sugar to be on the safe side, but any thoughts/advice would be great!

  • I haven't had that happen, but honestly if your doctor is telling you not to worry, I would listen to him/her.  They wouldn't steer you wrong and there is no need to unnecessarily stress yourself out.  GL!

  • I had GD last time but not this time. Passed one hour and watch my own sugars at home. I started spilling sugar into my urine about a month ago. My docs didn't seem too concerned but will be checking baby's size with an ultrasound next week mainly bc I am trying to Vbac. I started checking my glucose more often and my postprandials are great even with a high carb meal. So my point is, your dr is right. Probably not a big deal. But if you want, watch your carb intake. Smaller carb portions and all whole grain.
  • Yep, I passed my GTT with a 77, then slipped glucose at my last appointment, also 34 weeks.  My doc is totally not concerned, and my best friend said her office (she works for an OB/GYN in a nearby city) said then never are this late in the game either.  My doc said it was probably what I ate & drank for breakfast and to go home and eat some protein.  My next appointment I'll be sure to avoid the sugary juice, lol.
